oci card

Dear Sir,
I am currently an Indian citizen and will be due for my british nationality very soon and would like to apply for my OCI card thereafter. My wife will also be applying with me for the british nationality but she is also having her bangladeshi passport currently as she is from Bangladesh.

I want to know will my wife be eligible for oci or pio card as she is married to a person of indian origin.?

I am thoroughly confused. Could someone help me?????????

Hello drtarek, welcome to the site

We are not a "sir", but a public forum with many members.

I do not think your wife is eligible for OCI, but I think that she is eligible for PIO.

You can see the Ministry of Home Affairs site -->here for details.

Are you in or near London? You could also visit the High Commission and make enquiries there.

She will definitely not be eligible for an OCI card, but spouses of a "citizen of India or a person of Indian origin" are eligible for PIO cards. See link below:

http://www.hcilondon.in/pio.php#elegibility

Where it is unclear is whether or not someone with Bangladeshi ancestry can ever acquire PIO status. Certainly they cannot acquire it in their own right, but I'm unsure how acquiring it from a spouse would be affected by their ancestry. From the chart below, it appears that the spousal route PIO is entirely separate, in which case she would be elegible.

Pio

Dear Everyone,
Many many thanks for your promp reply. Is it worth applying for pio and oci card through agent i.e lawyers or directly through HCI, london.?

For renewal of pio cards does the applicant have to come back to the uk or can it be done from India itself.?

Regards

DR Tarek

Just go direct.

Don't worry about the renewal --- for 15 years! Anything could have changed by then.
