non uk resident visas

Just been told by a visa company that if you are a non-uk resident and apply for a visa in London you need a utility bill, over a year old, as prove of residency. If you don't have it apparently it delays the visa. Does anyone know if you can use any other id?

i was told by my company that they may ask for proof that i had been in the UK for longer than a year. They told me a UK credit card with the start date greater than a year ago would do, but better to have council tax slips/bank statements to a UK address, etc.
As it turned out the company guarentee thing was enough.

sorry, i think i misunderstood your initial post. I was a UK resident (EU citizen) for a year and a half, i got my visa same day, within a few hours, with my companies word being good enough to prove i was in the UK as long as i said i was.

I'm confused now, after rereading your first post. I don't think the consulate is concerned with legal residency, they just want to know that you've been in the UK for a year (AFAIK)

thanks for help - I think I got confused with residency etc - it seems that a bank statement or something will be ok.
