Third parties are fine; however it is just as easy, and possibly more reliable to refer to the decision makers:

Hi I want to ask, with a New Zealand passport, is it possible to obtain a tourist visa for a duration LONGER than 30 days? As I wish to travel in India longer than this period.

Yes, but you have to apply for it before you arrive. VOA is restricted to 30 days and is not extensible.

Biianco - yes - 180 days is 'usual'. Please refer to Indian High Commission website.

1. Tourist Visa

Persons wishing to visit India for sight-seeing, recreation or meeting friends are normally granted six months tourist visas, effective from the date of issue. Tourist visas are non-extendable and non-convertible. Person of Indian Origin, and his/her Spouse and dependant children visiting India should apply for "ENTRY" visa If they plan to stay in India for longer than 90 days.
