New rule about only applying for tourist visas from home country???

Hoping that you incredibly knowledgeable people can clear this up for me ...

I heard a rumour today that there is a new rule which means tourist visas can only be applied for from the applicant's home country.

I'm Australian, and I was planning on going to Sri Lanka to apply for a tourist visa next week, before travelling in India for a couple of months.

If the rules have changed, it will really screw up my plans.

Can anyone shed any light?

Not heard anything about that "new rule", there's nothing about it on the official visa application websites and I'm sure that if this was no longer possible there would have been a flood of reports on here.

There are however Embassies in some countries which only process applications from people resident in that country, that is likely the source of this rumour.
