New Queue at Chennai FRRO for long lost visa extensions
Someone went this week & from 4-5 pm was a Q for people who've been waiting for visa extensions for months. This friend was told his employment visa extension had been mailed in June to his guesthouse (he's moved) and to bring his Tax Report on Monday and they'll give him his visa .
On the other hand, 2 other friends have NOT moved--one sent his extension request in Dec., another in Mar.--and didn't get a thing. One of those 2 is going to FRRO Monday to check herself. Stay tuned. |

I cannot think what is wrong with these people. There is no reason for them to be short staffed. The passport office was shaken up and improved; maybe, one day, the immigration bureau.
Mind you, I won't hold my breath: visa applicants don't vote! I think I read somewhere recently that they have a huge backlog. Ahh... it was one of those articles to do with couples applying for two employment visas |

MHA is the problem
The backlog is in Delhi. Who knows if it is lack of staff, lack of will, or on purpose?

A backlog story, staring two Japanese executives in a management meeting.
MD asks for status of reinsurance claims. "There is no backlog" It is a well known fact that reinsurance claims have not been up to date for a couple of years, which costs the company a huge amount of money. "No backlog?" "No backlog." "No backlog?" "No backlog. We haven't started them yet..." Even the MD had to laugh. |

Extension Q exists in Chennai!
Friend #2 went. They said it will "be mailed" to applicants waiting 6 mos. or longer and it sometimes takes a year.
When #2 asked why #1 was told to come back today w/tax form and he'd get the visa today, the clerk said cuz #1 is Canadian and #2is British... |

He got the extension!
#1 went back w/Tax form and proof of TDS, bank draft for the extension and GOT IT. A miracle. Friend #2 has not, so is getting an exit visa/return, and getting new emp't visa abroad.

I applied for my visa extension in December 2008 at the Chennai FRRO and haven't heard a peep from them since. I'm going back tomorrow to try and get a return visa - just hoping they don't look at the tax docs too closely!
In a related story, another friend who waited a year for his extension got a new MD at the office who had connections. A few phone calls later and my friend got a call saying his extension visa had been 'found' and he could come and collect it anytime. It's all about who you know or who you pay ![]() |

OK, went back to try and get a return visa, tax stuff was fine, but they asked me to pay an additional Rs 21500 for some kind of 'balance' since my temporary 3 month extension visa had expired in April and I think they want me to apply for a new one while I'm waiting.
Tried to explain that I'm still waiting for 1 year extension, but by then they had already called the next person. Got to go back tomorrow and try and talk sense in to them again. I do love the Chennai FRRO ![]() |

The money
I assume your company is paying the "balance". Are you going to the Q that is at 4 pm?
What a story! |

I can't muster the strength to go back twice in a day
I'm British as well so will probably be in the same boat as your friend #2. |
