Need Help!! Need to re-issue passport which expired 2 yrs back.

Hi all,

Am new here. this is ma first post.

I have a passport which has expired 2 yrs bak. I want to re-issue it now. But dunno the proper way to due to:

1)I am from Kerala i.e my permanent address in passport is that of kerala address.

2)That house is now given for rent. And my family now stays in a rented apartment because its close to wer ma bro works.

3)I am now in mumbai as i got a job here. I joined on Jan 5th 2009. I am staying at an apartment here for rent.

So how do i go abt getting my passport re-issued? i called some agent here and dey asked abt 5k to get the whole thing done which i think is absurd.

I first thought i would do it from mumbai but then some said its tough n all. So was not sure..

Kindly provide ways how to get this done? What all do i need for this to be done?

Thanks in advance
-Ajo

Since it expired more than a year ago, you apply for a new passport. But provide details of old passport in the right places while applying.

Thats not correct.
the passport can be reissued within 3 years after the expiry of the previous passport.

In case 3 years have passed since the expiry of the passport, then you need to apply for a new passport instead of a reissue.

In OPs case, as it is only 2 years, he should apply for a reissue.

The reissue process is not complicated at all. read the passport website properly. the instructions and documentation needed are clearly stated.
Apply for your passport from the place where you can produce a strong address proof(voter ID card/ driving licence etc).

Hi nayan,

Surprise! From what I read about passport renewals/reissues, the limit was one year.

Good that upto 3 years, if it can be reissued, that means less hassles. Good News and Thank You very much.

glad to be a bearer of good news
look at this page
http://passport.gov.in/cpv/Forms.htm

"Reissue means an application for another passport in lieu of an existing one which has either expired or is about to expire. An applicant may apply for a new passport in lieu of an expired/ about to expire passport upto 3 years after and 1 year before the expiry of the Passport."

I recently got my passport reissued and the same info was written on the passport office walls too.

So my place at Kerala is the present address of ma folks at Trivandrum,Kerala(Tvm).. I dt have any address proof with respect to tvm.

And I stay in mumbai now.. I will be goin home by Dec.
how do i go abt the police verification. cos in my passport my permanent address is Klm. so should i go to the police station at klm? how do i go abt that?

Am a complete noob in this. So if u could tell the steps in detail it would be nice..

welcome to indiamike alex
this is not a hip-hop site nor is it a site where sms language is permitted...
so please spell out your words - so that all can 'get' what you're trying to say thank you.

regarding the renewal of your passport -
there is a temporary address and a permanent address requirement.
if the two are different - you will have to provide proof of address for both.

you will have to apply for the renewal from the city that has your temporary address.

for police verification - you dont go to them - they come to you.
they have to verify you live in the address that you have listed... the temporary address.

not quite sure if the permanent address 'home' is on rent - whether that address is null and void.
hoping someone will clarify this for you.

Proof of address

another inclusion if you do not have it
the ECNR stamp - you will have to provide your Class X certificate - which should have your name / date of birth / parent/s name on it.
it is advisable and convenient to have this stamped.

if you choose to do without the ECNR - then a "no emigration clearance" [i am guessing - additional runabouts and paperwork] is required at the time when you are visiting
Bangladesh, Pakistan and all countries in Europe (excluding CIS states), North America, Australia, Japan and New Zealand,South Korea,South Africa and Singapore .

nayan: driving license is not a proof of address. it can act as an id proof as does a pan card.

Please read this website thoroughly
http://www.passport.gov.in/

In case you are not making any changes from the info in your expired passport(address change, spouse name inclusion etc) I dont think you have a police verification(but check in that website). In that case applying with the kollam address is your best bet.

giving two addresses(in two differnt states) can complicate and delay matters.

You are right brishti - DL is not an address proof

true - two addresses is a tad unnecessary and complicated.
but even if your address does not change - isint police verification still carried on ?
did you have a police verification ?

i think nowadays they've become a tad vigilent on the 'address' bit.
if the cops go to his kollam residence - and he's no where in sight...

I had address change(and IAS letter) and tatkal. So no police verification(its supposed to happen after the passport is issued).

Sorry, I dont know if police verification is carried out in case of reissue with no info change. I know a few cases where it was not done.

technically - if the kollam address is not his 'home' no more - it is not the address he should be listing anyway.

alex - dont you have proof of address for bombay ? [all documents must be for the past one year]
i have my permanent and temporary address in a place where i am on rent... and in all probability will move on at some point.

just a tad dicey - not to be where you're listed that you are in.

if you're not 24 as yet - you can use your parents proof of address in trivandrum, as your own.
[unable to access your profile, technical glitch - hence unaware of your age, if it is listed there]

I think if your current address is more than one year, then police verifies only that address. So, no need to complicate the matter. Wait for 2 months and apply with just Mumbai address!

But, if it is urgent, then show Mumbai address as current and provide Kerala address as till Jan 4th. The police cannot delay beyond couple of weeks, and if no report is received within a time limit, then passport is issued.

nayan:
Tatkal is only valid for 1 year, I think. You need to apply for extension, when police verification is done to make it valid for 10 or 20 years as the case may be.

I have address proof for only my permanent address i.e at Kollam. My folks are now at Trivandrum(they went there when i went to mumbai). So its been 9 months now. So i don't have any address proof with the trivandrum address.

I am in mumbai now and its been 9 months since i have been here. I will get my name in the address proof this month so i will have an address proof of Mumbai

So i should put the mumbai address as my temporary address right?

I am not sure about this ECNR stamp. How do i get to know if i have this?

I have travelled to Bahrain using my old passport though. Dunno if that would help in knowing about the ECNR stamp.

If the come to kollam address, the people staying there won't be available in peak hours as they go for work. Also i won't know when the cops would be coming there so yes, there is one problem regarding that.

Quote:

Kollam address is my home. Its just given for rent as my folks are staying in Trivandrum. I want my Kollam address to be in the passport as my permanent address as it was before.

No i don't have. I will get my name in the agreement this month only. Also i have no documents in mumbai as i haven't applied for anything from mumbai. Also I came to mumbai in Jan, so its just been 9 months
