Name changing and Visa Application

Unfortunately [and fortunately] I'll be divorcing in a few short weeks. As a post-divorce treat, I'll be travelling to India to visit a wonderful friend who helped me thru this whole big drama. I'd love to get the paperwork all squared away now if I can. No, I haven't purchased the plane tickets yet.

Technically, my name will revert back to my maiden name when the degree is granted [I didn't have to do it, but I really wanted my identity back]. And, as I said prior, the decree isn't forth coming until my court date in another couple of weeks.

My passport is currently in my married name, as are all other ids, supporting documentation, etc, etc.

What's my best option - obviously I can't lie on the visa application and pre-name myelf my maiden name. But, technically when I'll be traveling it will be my maiden name again. On the other hand, all the paperwork will still have my married name anyway. Should I just not worry about it because everything is still in the married name to begin with? Should I take a copy of my decree with me, just in case?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You should apply for the visa in the same name as on your passport. Are you going to get a new passport before you go to India?

My passport is in my married name - I know I'm totally overthinking this one but I just have visions of craziness breaking out with some small flub on paperwork.

If you have time, and want to really leave that old name behind, change the passport, and go totally-new-id on your travels.

If not, Just stick with your old passport. They're not going to ask to see your divorce papers for the visa!

definitely get the visa in the name on your passport. A friend of mine was detained at immigration because the birthdate on the visa didnt match the birthdate on the passport (the visa issuer had transposed 2 numbers, 21 instead of 12). Im sure different names would cause even more trouble, if you even get the visa issued in the first place!
