Maurizio, i see you are Italian, my girlfriend is also Italian, shes been told by both Milan and Rome, the only Indian visa they will give her is a 3 month single entry.
Did you get the same???.
Why is Italy the only European country not giving the normal
6 month multi entry tourist visa????.
Anyone know??.

News from Nepaul

Hi

I don't know whether was this news reported or not here, since I have shortage of time, I could not check all threads.

Actually it's 2 news, as usual one is bad another is good.

Let's start with bad one - Nepali visas fees were hiked, considerably. Now it's 25 doll for 15 days, 40 doll for 30 days and 100 doll for 3 months. All visas are multiple entry.

Extension fees were also upped - now it's 2 doll per day minimum 15 days.

It means that for trekkers it's worthwile to get 3 months visa or 1 month, then extend for 2 weeks (if you fly to Lukla or Jomsom).

Then good news. However I am not sure but in my presence one German girl got second in a row 6 months Indian tourist visa. I don't know whether it's just for German citizens or for all, embassy website still talking that repeated applications will not be entertained.

Then personal note - I arrived to Indian embassy from Boudha by taxi as early as 5 am, and was the first one. People started to queue from 6 am. I chatted with that German girl and some other people, we sat for morning tea in cafe TCD just there at the gate. What a surprise was when one European tried to throw all us out when we emerged from cafe - he claimed he did not see us, despite we were sitting right on the road a couple of metres from him. Fortunately one Tibetan monk (in civil disguise as police does not tolerate maroon robes) who came second allowed us to get back our places in queue.

At 8.30 am Embassy gate were open and we all passed computer screen where everyone needs to touch particular type of visa and 1 or 2 visit, then we got slips with numbers in queue. Officers inside ask these slips.

Got my Indian visa after a while since Indian embassy in Kathmandu seeks clearances from Indian missions in espective countries and I was caught in long Diwali holidays.

It seems all Indian missions abroad work in different manner - some send clearances immediately, others are not in a hurry even when sent reminders.

As general rule it's worthy to apply for short visas (up to three months), then one gets visa easily, for longer like 6 months visa Embassies tend to delay with clearances.

My experience at KTM Indian Embassy

Hi folks

Just got a visa at the embassy in Kathmandu. I am British and this was my 3rd visa as have been travelling India since Jan 08.

Initially I had a 6 month visa from London from Jan - June, then in July I got a 3 month visa in Bangkok as they refused me a 6 month visa. As I don't go home until Jan 09 I had to leave India again in Oct and decided to get my last visa to complete my trip in Kathmandu. Didn't even attempt to request 6 months as knew it would not be granted given that this was 3rd visa and had only recently left India.

Arrived at embassy on 31st Oct at 6.45am and was 18th in queue. On the first visit you just submit a telex request form and pay 300 Nepal rupees to do this. The gate opens at 8.30am and you take a number from a machine. You then sit and wait for another hour for the visa counter to open at 9.30am.

The guy at the counter took the telex form and looked through my passport noted 2 recent visas and asked why repeated applications - explained was travelling for 1 year and not returning home til Jan 09. Offered to show him rtn flight ticket to the Uk but he said "that means nothing". He said that I must bring photocopies of the last two visas when I returned to submit the visa form (which you are given at this point).

Paid the telex fee at the next counter and was given a receipt which said I should return on 5th Nov. I didn't actually return until 10th Nov as went trekking.

Got there at 6am and was 2nd in queue and therefore got an early number when gates opened at 8.30am. Glad I did as found out later that day that anyone who had not been seen by 1.30pm was sent away and told to come back the next day.

9.30am came and went and the window did not open, finally at 10am they started work. My telex had come back from London giving clearance and so I submitted my visa form on the morning of 10th together with the copies of the previous 2 visas as requested. Returned on the afternoon of 10th Nov at 4.30pm and waited (along with everyone else collecting) for over an hour before they opened the window and began handing back the passports. Finally at 5.40pm I was presented with my 3 months single entry visa.

A word of warning though - I saw many people on 10th that I had seen on 31st submitting their telex forms. I asked why they hadn't collected their visas on 5th (assuming like me they had been trekking) and they said they returned on 5th to be told no response from their home country to the telex. They had returned on 6th and 7th and got the same result. Finally on the 10th they had a response and collected their visa the same day as me. They were very frustrated as they had to get up early several days on the trot and queue for nothing. Most of them were Dutch. So be warned if you go back after 5 days there is no guarantee that they will have had the response from your home country, make sure you factor this in as many people had Nepali visas expiring and needed to get these extended while they waited for telex response in order to submit the visa form.

Hope this helps but any queries please ask.

Cheers
Sian

No answers. But you can apply for a new visa any time you want yes, your existing one has little or nothing to do with it.

If you'll succeed is another thing; it gets discussed on this site quite a bit, and I'm not of the impression anyone has any definitive answers. You should be aware you have no "right" as such to a new visa, so just consider whatever you get to be lucky.

As we know, its all abit hit and miss applying anywhere apart from your home country.
Ive met people this season, who have got new 3 month visas in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Thailand, also in Thailand they will give you a new 6 month visa, if you have been out of India for 2 months.
Even though ive met people, who have got 3 monthers, it can change tomorrow.
Where did your last visa come from??.
Good luck, keep us informed.

Steve, you've been doing nothing but pass out rumors in the field as long as you've been here, and asking questions on it clearly indicating you don't know either.

Not very helpful I'd say, or you could at least make it clear with each of those posts that you in fact do not know. As presented now, this can only add to people's confusion. Apart from your assertions I have nothing to go on that the Thai situation would be as clear-cut, for instance, in fact I hear differently. My local visa service (very nice and approachable folks) in the meantime clearly tells me that back-to-back visas are technically and legally a thing of the past, period, and in fact were never meant to be (as anyone could think of themselves). And that applying for a tourist visa in another than your home country may be extremely difficult if not impossible. And that visa services all over the world have been issued with these stipulations, over the past year.

I know they have no option but to give me the formal rules and people still report getting by on the ground; but in any case this is what you're formally looking at.
