Goa to Colombo 9000rs
Trivandrum to Colombo 5595rs
Those are the Sri Lanka airlines prices on the site, just checking around now to see if anyone else can better it but i think that is the best i am gonna get.
Single entry will do me just fine as long as its a 6 month.
& dont worry you will be the first to hear either my joy or my ranting depending on which way it goes...

These are single fares or return.
Sounds like your well traveled, so if they only offer you a 3 monther, get a little angry, it may work, if not they will put you in Jail!!!!.
Where will you try Kandy or Colombo??
Good luck.
Tell them you need 6 months for your studies, on beers in Goa.

One way im afraid...
Im thinking to try Colombo(not for any other reason than its more convenient travel wise) but if anyone could give me any specific advice as to which my best shot is it would be most welcomed.
I am gonna try & tell them i need a 6 month as i am getting married here in Feb(which is a half truth,i AM engaged to an Indian girl, but the date hasnt been set yet) but actually now that i think about it maybe it wouldnt be such a good idea to tell them that after all. They might not even give me a 3 month then!

While im at it could anybody please tell me how long it generally takes to get it done?
Ive heard 5 days from one source & 2 weeks from another....

I'm sure they'll be as impressed as surprised at the revelation that you want the tourist visa to, um, travel some more yes.

ps Amboli, yes, if it's wise or not to announce any marriage plans there remains to be seen I imagine. Maybe it can't hurt at all, who's to say.

I'll be curious like the others to know how you fared.

THey say 5 working days, but from what i hear allow 2 weeks, the only problem with Colombo, is a shortage of cheap accomodation, Kandy is better for accomodation.
Everyone goes to Kandy for a new visa, so maybe more chance in Colombo, and Colombo is the main Embassy.
Im more than interested how you get on??.
Good luck
At least Sri Lanka is a free visa, for 30days.

a little off the side of the topic

hi,
a bit of a weird question, but here goes:
in the indian embassy, do they also check/care about your nepali visa??? like where you entered nepal for instance???
i have dual nationality and i was hoping to juggle between my passports... but if i have a border crossing stamp it's an obvious giveaway that i've just come overland from india and consequently that i have two passports!!!! whoops!!!
that in itself is not actually illegal, but could be a good enough reason for them to refuse me a visa...
any thoughts??

ps: it's weird isn't it? i'm not accustumed to cheating, but all these visa restrictions are bringing out the criminal in me!!!

You don't name your nationalities - there's some technical stuff here that governments like to insist on. I have 2 1/2 passports, British, US and OCI (Indian) - The Brits have categorically told me wayy back ( might have changed ) that I am the subject of the Queen, I can't lose my British nationality, only SHE can take it away - the US is very clear - I've forsworn allegiance to all other nations apart from the USA and as regards the Indian side.. I have an infinite time visa - with many privileges so.. so clear as mud ?

Sticking to passports - I've always used my Brit passport all through the EU - in India at immigration I have to show my US passport - since the Indian visas are all in there. at hotels and banks I use my Brit passport.

If I'm ever hijacked - well I have a choice, depending on the hijackers, of what I claim to be - but I think the US passport will be kept well hidden !

So juggling is indeed possible - but know the rules, know how IT databases work - decide what you are going to be and stick to it - IT systems hate it if you switch things mid-stream.

Good luck.

Speaking to a friend yesterday whose fiance had to renew his visa for India and they went to Kathmandu about 3 weeks ago to do it. They used an agent - Hari Shresta, Budget Travels, Freak St. There is now a rule whereby you cannot renew a tourist visa for India within 2 months. (I see this is also applying in Bangkok). She said it applies to certain nationalities but she didn't know which ones - he is Canadian. They both had to have an interview (her visa is employment and she said she needed him to be with her here in India). After a lot of tearful, stressful time in the interview room he was finally granted a 6 months Tourist Visa. She said if you are to get a renewal inside that 2 months period you have to have very strong reasons why.
One thing the agent said, was if you have a new passport, then you can easily get it.

As far as i can understand in Bangkok, they will give you a new tourist visa, but only for 3 months.
If you are out of India for 2 months, then they will give you a 6 month tourist visa??.
Please correct me if im wrong, but this is what i understand??.
Thanks

Steve - that may be right but in this case her fiance wasn't going to get any visa until he had been 2 months out of India. With the interview and my friend showing all her papers and employment visa to prove it was necessary that she be there and she wanted him with her, he was finally granted it. I don't know anything about a 3months Visa immediately granted in Bangkok.

Well im not planning to tell them that initially but i suppose if they tell me i can only have 3 months then its certainly worth a try!

Happy to hear the Sri Lanka visa is free but a little worried about this no tourist visa within 2 month of leaving India rule.
Surely if they are enforcing it in Nepal & Thailand it will apply in Sri Lanka too...
Is it even possible to stay in Sri Lanka for 2 months? I mean after the free 30 day visa is over, can u pay for a longer one?
My god this is all getting complicated.Maybe my wedding will have to be sooner than later...Then i can go thru another headache tryin to get my PIO!

As far as i know, they are giving a 3 month visa in Thailand, straight away, but to get a 6 monther you need to be out of India for 2 months, last i heard.
When are you flying to Sri Lanka??.
Good luck.
