as far as my knowledge goes, it depends entirely on the lenght of ur visa how u long u can stay there.

I have never heard of such thing.

Some rules differ though from country to country, but surely u can only stay in nepal as many days as mentioned on ur visa. Read it carefully. There are no exceptions.

My threat was entirely based on getting an indian visa in Nepal, but to find out the rules for staying in Nepal, its may be better to ask ur embassy there.

I believe that is correct. 5 months in each calendar year. But the last 30 days of that you can only get if you are still in nepal from the previous 4 months. After 5 months in a single calendar year ---> get out. No exceptions.

That's my understanding.

yes, Tapestry is correct. Generally you can extend the tourist visa, up to a maximum of 150 days in any one calendar year if you fulfil certain condititions. I can't remember if you have to leave Nepal if your visa is still valid, to get the one for the new calendar year, but I have a feeling that you do. can anyone confirm or otherwise clarify this point?

I'm quite sure you do have to leave the country in order to re-start the clock in the new year because otherwise you'd be overstaying the "no more than 150 consecutive days" rule. So, for example, if you somehow arrange it that your days are up exactly on December 31, you probably still have to leave the country to start your new visas on January 1. Generally, that's how this visa stuff goes anyway. You have to leave the country to restart the clock.

i was at the visa office yesterday. the board says opens 10am, but they may make you wait a little while outside, then they let you in but the windows don't open till 11am. and unless you stop the guys walking back and forth they will not do anything. when you go to the window to submit and pay, they don't say they are coin collectors and like to get some american coins, they just ask for dollar, i didn't have, but no one gets the change from the NRS2000 for the visa, which would be 53 rupees. the guy directly in front of me on line's slip said he should return at 1pm, mine said 1:30 pm. i think it is slow season and they are making paperwork show they are busy. i went back at 12:30 and the visa was ready.

the info board did say 5 months any calandar year, but i didn't ask them about leaving the country or not, even if for just one day.

Hi u r right abt most of the things u have written except that one is not allowed to carry indian currency in Nepal. you can , but make sure the denominations are not above 100. U can carry as much as possible but there must not be any 500,1000 rs notes with u....

Indian currency is widely accepted in Nepal and its not at all a problem as long as u have 50 and 100 rs denominations..

So I have read the very informative step by step (thanks) my question is can this process be sped up in anyway eg; by using an agent or similar? my main problem being that arriving on sunday 4th nov gives me only mon, tues, weds as thurs is Diwali. Any ideas appreciated

Poland used to have free visas to a lot of countries, including India. USA citizens almost always pay the most for a visa to another country. You would be surprised how much more a USA citizen has to pay compared to an Italian, Canadian or Japanese to visit a lot of countries.

My guess for a reason would be that the USA charges everyone else enormous amounts of money and are really nasty about it (never refunded, even if rejected), so most countries try to return the favor.

According to the Nepal Embassy in Germany website (see MoFA for a link), "(a) Free Visa for 3 or less than 3 days single entry" which may be good news for anyone wanting to extend their Indian visa or a quick Nepal visit. Note that a transit visa is also available, but requires onward ticket and is only valid for 48 hours.

As far as I know and was firmly told cwab77, the agent loophole/option has been closed. You have to submit and accept your application personally. And even if you did use an agent, they couldn't speed it up in total number of business days required, only wait there for you.

BANGLADESH IS SAFE, dont know how u got the idea that u cant walk around DHAKA city lol u can go where ur eyes take u and ur mind can fly... chill i am from DHAKA , Bangladesh and its really sad to read all this u know media plays a vital role to spoil a nation's image and so is happening with bangladesh common its not as bad as ppl with set mind think about it... come explore for urself BANGLADESH cheers

Uh, OK, thanks azizdhamani. Not sure where you got the idea any of us on this thread had any bad impressions of Bangladesh. We were talking about visas in Nepal and India and Sri Lanka.

I'd love to visit Bangladesh at some point (so many countries, so little time) and have no fears of its safety. I don't listen to the media. I think you'll find most on this community are open-minded and even bold sorts. So thanks for your pride in your country, but have no fear, you're preaching to the converted.

Hi Kishori,

It's good of them to give that advice. I'm in Colombo going for my third shot and struck out. They had even hinted that when I've had a Business Visa for a year they may be able to give me a longer than 6 month visa. In reality, they reluctantly gave me a one month tourist visa to take care of business / flat etc...

So my question is, did you meet people who went two strikes at Kat, then go for two at Colombo, etc? I don't want to fly all the way home (NZ), or have to wait 6 months before coming back as the Business activities are finally getting worthwhile...

Any one in the same spot and got round it?

hello there!
as u know, greek and italians are getting only three months visa from the beginning(i dont know the reason, but i am very interested to learn it ). mine expires on the 3 of january. so i am flying to kathmandu next week, trying to get another three months.if anybody knows if this is possible for me, i would be very thankfull for any advise. greetings from delhi, finally without belly.
