Thanks for the reassuring messages. The thing is I applied for the one year tourist visa in Canada (still possible) back in December. Unfortunately the attack in Mumbai happened just as I sent it away and thus my visa was returned with a 6 month stamp and a message telling me that in the near future the max they were giving out was 6 months and I was lucky to get that at all. A mistake on my part as I didnt plan on entering India til April. So my visa which expired June 8th was only used from April 19th til the 6th of June.
So thanks again and I'll post again Friday to let you all know what the outcome was.

IF they do check your entry and exit stamps, the fact that you haven't been trying to live in India will make it far more likely that you'll get a visa; very best of luck!

To anyone else in this situation, consider submitting your application with a covering letter explaining that you have not been in India for long. Whatever the general policy about back to back visas, individual decisions are made by visa officers who have quite a bit of leeway.

When restricting back to back visas, the Indian authorities do not intend to deter genuine tourists from visiting India for the purposes of tourism, although sadly some may get caught up in this.

Just curious, if it all comes down to the interview Friday, what is the purpose of sending in the initial telefax request form where I ask for 6 months? By the way it sounds, forgive and correct me if mistaken, I have to try and persuade the fellow I meet behind the counter on Friday. I already told the fellow on Monday why I wanted the 6 months and he put it on the request sheet but by the way it sounds, I will still need to state my case on Friday. Is this true? Am I making sense?

I apologize for the inconvenience of my convoluted questions and reasoning.

6 month tourist visa for Chinese passport holders

anyone who knows do the processes take more time for Chinese passport holders to apply for 6 months tourist visa in KTM?

the situation in China is like, maximum duration issued to Chinese residence is 3 months, bank statement of 10,000 RMB frozen amount.I'm worrying about the potential different entertainment?

However, since the offical website says following without exception statement, I would still need suggestions before I go there for my renew."

# Tourist Visas which are now valid for 6 months are issued only to those foreigners who have no residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective in visiting India is recreation, sight-seeing or casual visits to friends and relatives. Tourist visas count from the date of issue and cannot be extended or converted into any other category in India."

I'm now doing an internship in Mumbai till Aug, and my double entry XV visa( visa tailored for interns) will expire on 18th Aug,09, for the purpose of tourism in accross India and Sri Lanka, I'm planning to leave on 15th Aug and go to Indian Embassy in Kathmandu on 17th Aug,09( Monday, one day before my current visa expires)for 6 month-multiple-entry visa application.Would plan to come back India on 30th Aug, 09 after getting the new visa since there are some post internship programs gonna happen in early September.

Sounds feasible?? I need to make sure that I can get back Mumbai on 1st Sep,09.

My impression is many long-term travelers are currently involved in a lot of wishful thinking about destinations where it could still be done effortlessly, then taking anyone's word that it happened to work for them as some form of guarantee. Fact is that my Dutch visa services have informed me those (relatively) new and more stringent rules (or shall we indeed say the more stringent application of existing rules) have, of course, been issued by the Indian government to Indian embassies and visa services worldwide.
I was saying about VERY PLEASANT experience in Bangkok's VFS comparing to horrible Indian embassy in Kathmandu on my experience this winter when last autumn I foolishly agreed for only three month visa and then on second time the embassy refused citing their rule (all people who are not residents of Nepal can get tourist visa only once in Kathmandu, repeated applications won't be entertained). So I flied to Bangkok and got 6 month visa which is even more than I needed (as I leave the country after 4 months).

I advised all others to go to Bangkok instead of Kathmandu and just few days ago one Romanian guy who is yoga practitioner returned from Bangkok with new 6 months back to back visa. He said everything was fine and pleasant exactly as I told him. At the same time I continue to hear from tourists stories about unmotivated and arbitrary refusals in issuing visas in Indian embassy in Kathmandu. Most people say it's possible to get all kind of Indian visas in Kathmandu but only if one is ready to use good services of Thamel travel agents for big fee. Is it legalized corruption or not I don't know.

Australian seeking renewal of Indian Tourist Visa in Nepal

Hi All, Just wondering if there are any Aussies out there who have recently applied in Nepal for a renewal of their Indian Visa. Have heard there might be a waiting period, or can only get 3 months Visa. Any feedback will be appreciated....Sai Ram...EmTara

Welcome to IndiaMike.

I have asked for this post to be added to the Kathmandu Visa sticky thread, where you are more likely to get a response.

Meanwhile, if you take a look at the more recent pages of that thread it will give you a good idea of the current situation.

You don't renew, you get a new visa. Can take 5 working days but is highly likely on the first reup out of home country. May be a 3 monther on the 2nd though..

Total cost to get Indian Visa from Kathmandu

Has anyone made the journey recently from Delhi to Kathmandu by bus and train to get an Indian visa?

Can you give me an idea of the total cost? Including the cost of things like getting a Nepalese visa and accommodation costs in Nepal, and all transportation costs.

Also, how much time is required in Nepal to obtain my new Indian visa?

Has anyone ever been denied re-entry back into India (US citizen) from Nepal? I currently hold a 10-year multiple entry Indian tourist visa expiring in 2019. I have been in India since May 2009, and married to an Indian national from June 25, 2009 and I need to go across the border and back to re-start another 180 days.

Thanks,

- Stephanie

I think (or have never heard differently anyway) that holding that US 10-year visa, it should really be just a mere formality. You're doing nothing wrong, and that visa is valid; it just requires you to leave every 180 days.

No problem that I know of, Stephanie. After you have been married for at least 12 months (this all varies from country to country) you should try for the PIO card and then there will be no need for you to go in and out every 180 days. Take a look at some of the threads here on the Forum in regard to the PIO card.

Aishah,

Yes, that is the plan. However, I need to restart the 180 days at least 2 times, before that time will approach. Thanks!

What does a Nepali Visa look like ?

What does a Nepali tourist visa look like ? Is it a mere set of stamps on your passport, like Turkish ? Or a Receipt stapled on the second last page as Chile ? or they require a full empty page in your passport ?

Not having any first hand experience, I was unable to answer a query on another forum. I figured that folks who do a Kathmandu run would be in the know.
