my experience getting x visa in thailand

Hello, just thought I'd update with my experience getting and x visa in Thailand in case it helps anyone. I got this after getting married in an Indian registry office to my Indian husband.
it was really easy!!!

First we were worried because we had some people say (dont know if its true or not) that we needed a ministry of external affairs stamp on the marriage certificate and we didn't have time for that before my tourist visa expired.
So what we did is go to the local passport office and have them put a stamp with my name on my husbands passport. For that we had to just show the marriage certificate, pay 300 rupees and wait for one day. That is stamped also ministry of external affairs. Another forum member mentioned the embassy in bangkok had asked her about that and as she didnt have it they had had a long interview before getting the visa.

In Thailand we got the interview for the visa in the embassy. The first questions the man asked my husband was ' you don't have your wifes name in your passport'? Happily we could say yes we do - and as soon as he saw it he started signing the approval box on the form and we got the visa in 5 days!!! really easy.
They didn't even check the marriage certificate.
Of course I cant promise everyone would have the same experience but that was how it happened for us.
He also told me to apply for a PIO card - that will probablly be my next question on this forum but for now just enjoying having a one year visa!!

Best of luck to everyone

Isn't it wonderful to have a visa that doesn't say "T" on it. I bet you sneak a look at it every so often --- or am I the only one to do the visa gloating?

I imagine it took five days because Thailand is not your native country, so it might have taken that long whatever visa you were applying for you.

Now you have the fun, back in India, of getting registered! They may so that you cannot do so until you have been there nearly six months. Of course, if there is no specific reason that you need that paper, like getting a driving licence, you might just as well wait, otherwise you have to fight them.

Well done!

Hello thanks for the replies - yes it's such a relief to have the x visa after so much worrying before - I got myself registered - thought you had to do that within 2 weeks?? it wasn't really complicated but I live in a town not city in Kerala so maybe that's why..
best wishes to all

Maybe you both were looking so much like a happily new wed couple that this was proof enough
Congratulations!

At the moment we only have a motorbike - no need for a car here...but I'm still a bit of a chicken using it within the town...so far I'm more happy on a bicycle....

Congrats!

Enjoy it and have a good time.

Before applying for PIO read the threats about it here on indiamike. Not to discourage you just to save you some headache.

All the best.
