Maximum 90 day stay for Some European Tourists
I've now gone through most of the visa topics from the past 6months here in IM
but can't find anybody mentioning this what they said to me in Indian embassy, when they issued me my 1 yr tourist visa: "Nowadays anybody coming to India with a tourist visa, no matter what is the lenght of the visa, 1/2 yr, 1 yr or 5 yr, HAS TO LEAVE INDIA EVERY 90 DAYS." I still see people talking here of 6 months stay, so let's clear this out now how is it.

What is stamped on your visa?
My visa from the uk (6 Month tourist visa) was overstamped - "Stay during each visit shall not exceed 180 days" So it depends upton your nationality, where you got the visa from and its length. So if yours states max stay 90 days then for you 90 days it is. Dave P.S The new talked about longer term visitors visa is rumoured to have a 90 day limit, but your visa will tell you. |

Now it says "Continuous stay on each visit should not exceed 90 days and registration not required." They said in the embassy like no matter wht country, nowadays in 2007 any tourist visa to India has max stay 90 days. (In December the same embassy had said to my friend tht 6months stay will still be possible in the future, though it is not - i.e. given wrong information.) So, when was your 180 days -visa issued? And how about anybody having a tourist visa issued this year, what does it say - gallup? |

180 days has been standard for American and British non-Indian nationals. Other places have a standard 90 days. Still others are on an individual basis. It should be pointed out that 90 days is pretty much the world norm for most countries.
The people on IM who are talking about six-months stays are from countries where such visas are issued. |

You can't complain.
Visa and immigration issues are entirely at the whim of the governments involved. They have every right not to let you into their country, or to place any restriction on that entry.

But what's the use of continuing giving wrong information there in the embassy. One has to come here on IM to clear things out. Funny. |

I was given a 6 month tourist visa overstamped with 180 days in February, in London. I previously had an X visa and had stayed here continuously for 19 months. There have been rumours about only getting 90 days since the middle of last year. I'll be going somewhere else. Crossing borders every 3 months is too much hassle and expense.

My visa issued for December through June - 180 days. No other restriction was written on it. Got it through Indian consulate in Houston.
