Lightbulb marriage to an indian in the UK

After a lot of searching on the net, this site is the closest I could find to answering my questions, although this looks more like a site for travel in India!

Anyway, somebody may have some answers so here we go...

I am a UK citizen, born here, with parents of Indian origin. My partner who I have known for 3 years now is an Indian citizen, and has been studying in the UK for 5 years now.

I would like to know what the procedure is for me to marry an Indian citizen who is here on a student visa, if anybody could shed some light on the situation please!!!

thank you very much

Miss Kaur.

I have found some information on the UK Border & Immigration website here: http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/vis...ettingmarried/
Your partner might need a certificate of approval, details of which are here: http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/vis...ateofapproval/
Good luck.

From what I understand, marrying an Indian citizen in the UK makes life a little easier for him to get a residency.. However, he will still have to go back to India to apply for a change of VISA. You will have to have documents to show that you can support him in the UK. As per previous IM, Homeoffice site is best for information.

My understanding is that you can not marry a foreign citizen in UK unless their visa specifically allows it.

For example, even if you apply for non-settlement (ie tourist) visa, you have to state that you plan to marry in UK, and cannot do so unless the visa so states.

UK visas site is the horse's mouth!
