Exclamation Lost Passport Query

Hi friends, I have a query regarding re-issue of lost passport. I am from Kolkata and had a passport issued there 3 years back. However, presently I am working in Bangalore and last week I lost my passport. I got an FIR and an affidavit done. My ques was, in case I apply for re-issue of the lost passport, will police verification also be required in my case? Also, will I get my fresh passport at the permanent or the present address? Thanks.

Yes, PV is required because you are not staying at the Old address. The new one will carry the new address.

More on the official home page or here: http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...apply-t175750/

Thanks a lot for the reply, just one more concern, is it mandatory that I apply for re-issue now itself or can I do it at a later stage when I go back to Kolkata or any other place?

Won't matter where you apply in my opinion. Reason being that you need to provide address proofs for all places you have stayed in the last 12-18 months. However, you should apply where you are living at the time of application.

The rental agreement with a electricity bill of the landlord should do. The names of the landlord in both should match.

You cant write both addresses as same. You are applying in BLR with address of Kolkatta.

You need the FIR copy to file for a passport reissue. You should have also contacted the RPO and have the passport cancelled when it was lost.

Hi Narendra, I have some queries and would be grateful if you can clarify. My wife lost her valid passport a few weeks back. Now we want to apply for reissue for which we have obtained FIR report and affidavit.
(i) Since the lost passport was issued before we married, would it be mandatory to submit a marriage certificate now even though we do not intend to change her surname?
(ii) As address proof, she only has mobile bill of the last 3 months. Would it suffice to submit a copy of her running bank passbook with the current address on it? Or would it be better to obtain address proof certificate from her boss (she works in an institute)?
(iii) The lost passport was issued in Guwahati. Now that we are residing in Delhi for the last one year, is PCC necessary? If yes, is this done at the time of passport application or before/after?
(iv) Would it be necessary to inform Guwahati Passport Office about the loss? If yes, verbally or in written i.e. letter/e-mail?
(v) Any other documents that we may possibly need?

Regards,
Richard

Last year I lost my passport while travelling in Switzerland. The next day I went over to the police station at Interlaken and got an FIR lodged. After obtaining the FIR copy I visited Indian embassy in Bern. I was given an exit permit by the Embassy after I paid the required amount of money at a designated bank. The exit permit allowed me to leave Switzerland and travel to Delhi.
Upon arriving in Delhi I was asked to surrender the exit permit to the immigration office and I was given a surrender certificate. Thereafter I applied for a new passport and that surrender certificate was attached with my application. Please note that in case one lost ones passport outside India one cannot apply under Tatkal scheme. So, I had to apply under ordinary scheme. The procedure is exactly like applying for a fresh passport. I had to give proof of my residence, police verification was carried out as usual and I got my passport in due course of time. In this passport my old passport number is mentioned with a note that it was declared lost.

1. Yes, a marriage certificate will be needed if you mention that she is married. Its a good idea to submit a marriage certificate. Please note that a marriage certificate is required if one is married. The spouse name is endorsed in the passport. It has nothing to do with change of surname.

2. The bank statement/passbook should be enough for address proof.

3. A PCC won't be required. However Police verification might be conducted at both addresses and proof of both addresses might be asked if its under or just over a year.

4. Generally a FIR is enough. I think there is a mechanism by which the Police inform the concerned RPO or nearest RPO. Not so sure about this.

5. All documents that you normally submit for a fresh passport, address proofs of both places and FIR.

As I had explained you will follow the procedure as if you are applying for a fresh passport. So, in the relevant section fill in your present marital status.
