Long Term Visa into Employment Visa?
I am a frequent visitor to India, and am seriously considering seeking employment there. I would not be attempting that for another year, but in the meantime, I am planning a vacation there this March. I was thinking about applying for a 5 or 10 year tourist visa, but am now reconsidering in the case that I find a job in India next year. I understand that I will need an employer sponsorship and I will need to return to the U.S. to obtain an employment visa, but will a long-term tourist visa get in the way of this and/or make it more difficult?

I am really not the least bit an expert in any of this, but no, I don't see how it would.
From all I read you'd find an employer to sponsor you; apply for an employment visa on that basis back home; and that's it (for others: Note that I don't think you can switch employers just like that on that visa). Any other visas you may hold at that time would just be null and void, I guess. Calling your Indian embassy about it would make sense; these are perfectly legit questions.
