london visa q latest warning- today I joined an immense queue at the indian high commission at 8.45am. I stood in the queue for 3 hours on the pavement until I finally got to the ticket window. They were giving out tickets for 22nd!- 10 days time. Fortunately, I can do this but many others may be in a more urgent position. Is the system breaking down?

Thanks very much for posting this info I was planning a trip to UK to sort visas - but looks like there's no point 'till after Diwali? Did the queue reduce by 11:00? I was thinking about asking a friend in London to pick up some tickets for us - then plan my visit for the date on the tickets? Have the new Visa agents nabbed all the tickets? ![]()

visa q No, I think that as more people joined the queue after me, it still looked as long, even at midday when I was leaving.By that time my back was really aching and I wish I'd brought a folding stool( I'm not young or fit). I now have a ticket saying to go there at 10 am on 22nd. I really hope that I will get my visa that day and will not have to return again. I have a friend who plans to go and queue from 7am next Tuesday. I will let you know if he is more successful. Yes, it could be to do with the listed agents. It might be worth phoning an agent to ask how long the process would take through them. What will happen to people who do not know about this problem and turn up near to their departure flight day, I wonder?

From what I can gather, it is very similar at the consulate in Birmingham. As I don't live anywhere near Birmingham, I'm using an agent (listed on the consulate's website) for the first time. I emailed the agency and it told me they can "turn around" a visa in 5 days. I'm not too sure what this means as on their site it says they wait 5 days to make sure the cheque clears. Last time I did a postal application, direct to the consulate, back in January, and it took 3 and a half weeks to get me visa/pp back. So who knows, particularly with the current postal dispute. I sent my application very early this time. If it gets stamped next week then I'll lose 3 weeks on the visa. Best to be safe though.

Did he have a Q ticket issued previously, or did he get the whole process done in one day by arriving so early?

If on the 12th they were handing out tickets for the 22nd then I don't see how it's possible for anyone to get a same-day visa on the 16th just by turning up early. But then, this is India, right... ![]()

The whole thing seems like a complete farce. The Ministry of Tourism is trying to boost foreign tourism. This visa situation will just deter people. 8 per cent growth per year for inbound tourism is expected between 2007 and 2015. If I'm getting to the point of wondering whether it is all worth it and thinking of going to Morocco instead (three month visa on arrival for free), who knows what others will do if this situation persists.

| At the end of Sept, i arrived at 7.40 and was 125 in the queue. Only 3 windows were open inside and I walked out with my visa at 11.50. ![]()

Going by many of the comments here on IM, the situation seems to have gone into meltdown in early Oct - to coincide nicely with peak season!

That seems to be the case. I got my visa on 11 September - and I was in and out within an hour (a record!). The situation has deteriorated significantly since then.

in response to Nick H, my friend did not have a q ticket yesterday, he got his visa in one go. I decided not to wait till the 22nd to go back with my q ticket,as I felt too anxious and I went up very early today. I left home at 4am and was in the queue, with about 20 people in front, at 5 am. I was very tired and aching but went in at 8.45am and had my visa by 9.45am. I gave my q ticket for 22nd. to some people at the back of the huge queue that I saw on leaving. Yes, it is possible to go very early and get a visa the same day but this is not an option for some people. If everyone did this the same huge queue would be there but earlier. There was a guy standing with me who had flown down from Manchester and stayed in a hotel overnight to get his visa.
