Visa has now come back, it took just under 2 weeks in the post. Not bad for this time of year and taking into concideration that there will have been a back log.

Dreadful article.

Hey guys,

I've heard all the horror stories so can anyone tell me if I am completely kidding myself here!!??

I am going to be in London from 19th to 29th. I'm an Aussie passport holder. My calculations give me 5 working days if I submitted my passport for new Indian tourist visa at HCI london on morning 20th. I guess I should add I've currently got a valid tourist visa for India, but that expires a couple days after I get back to Delhi.

Everything says a 3-5 days to get a visa for non UK citizen. Am I in with a chance?

(If I don't get the tourist visa I do have a onward flight from Delhi before the old visa runs out - but hoping I don't have to go home to Aus purely to get a new visa to come back...)

My experience is that if you do not have a UK passport then you need to have proof of residence in the UK. My visa application was denied until I provided proof of residence. Just another twist to the Indian visa stupidity.
Next winter I will go to SL instead. I did of course say the same thing last winter after yet another unpleasant visa experience

To be fair, the Indian High Commission website does make it quite clear that applications from non-residents will take longer, which is presumably why they require evidence of residency.

But you're right about the whole visa process (not to mention IRCTC) - we've already decided to go to Syria and Jordan next year instead.

Got my Visa last Friday. Rambled up at 10.15am, no queue for Q tickets. Had Q ticket for 2.00pm, so went to cinema, came back at 2.00pm, had Visa within 90 mins.

Interesting... I have a theory that the 5.00am queue is no longer necessary, but is just a panic-buying reaction to recent events.

Just read this in the newspaper on line

2 Britons arrested for racist taunts while seeking Indian visa
http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryP...9-cb2694c7fe48....
by chetanw 6 days ago (hindustantimes.com)

Quote:
The gap between issuing visas to foreigners wanting to visit India and the supply of those visas has become so large that an official in the Indian High Commission in London was actually assaulted on Friday, sources in the High Commission told HT.

Anupam Ray, an IFS official who went on deputation to the High Commission in London to help coordinate Kamlesh Sharma’s election to the post of Commonwealth Secretary General, was assaulted by some Britons seeking visas. The Britons, who also began racial taunts as they waited in queue, were subsequently arrested, the sources said. A shaken Ray, who was due to move to New York on a transfer in January will now leave for the United States immediately, proceeding to Washington on Monday.

The problem has become so trying that London’s Mayor Ken Livingstone raised the matter of delayed visas and consequent problems at the London Mission in meetings with senior officials during his recent visit to India, official sources said.

That article did get referenced in another thread. It is so badly written, that it is impossible to understand what happened, and references all sorts of staff movements that may or may not be to do with anything at all.

To begin with, I don't think there is any "shortage of supply" of visas in London.

I think you're right Nick, I had to be back for work, so I queued early. But the other gent was right, they were telling the latecomers to come back at half ten.

I just posted my visa, what with the postal order and those speacial envelopes it came to just over £42. Better than getting the early train up to London and hanging about.
Has anyone managed to fill in the visa form using "Word " it says on web page download as pdf or word . I tried to fill it in yesterday and gave up in the end.
Any one thinks the same as me that next year we will only be allowed 3 months visa ?And of course they will have the Agency's to do the visa sorted by then.
