Yes, I've done it in Word. Messy, but it can be done!

There is a site, linked to in one of the main visa threads, where someone put a fill-online-and-print version that works well if it is still out there.

I thought i must have been doing it wrong in word. Every time you write something in,it moves all the lines,i kept moving them back and thought i did it ok .Printed it out and it didnt match up to the pdf visa form. So i binned it and done it by hand.Shame its not easier to fill it in as it looked neater.
I renewed my new passport, filling it in on line, then they send you the filled in form to sign. Easy.

You have to constantly delete ............... and substitut with text or use overtype mode, not insert, but you'll still have to adjust.

It's a pain.

We got there at 5:30 this morning & were 9 & 10 in the Q. When I checked at 7am there was a massive queue round the corner & down the street. Not sure how long it took those peeps to be seen, but we were done by 9:30am. Hoooray!

Take your woollies - it's chilly, but it's worth it to know it's all done and dusted.

Good luck everyone.

London postal application - 15 day turnaround

Hi

Sent my postal visa application to London on the 18th December, and received it back on Jan 3rd. 15 day turnaround including 2 x weekends, xmas day, boxing day and new years day.
Not bad eh?....

Not bad Trev. I did a postal application to Brum one year ago. No bank holidays were involved but it still took them three and a half weeks to do... and I had to change my ticket (date) as a result.

I posted mine the same day as you alpertonian, got it back today as well.
My old passport had run out so i had got a new passport and just clipped the old passport to the new passport. I posted them off together and they have posted both back but they have stapled them both together !

Just read this thread with interest. I'm hoping to leave for Goa next week so will have to go to the HC to get my visa. I'm slightly concerned by the fact that some people have had to queue from 5.30am! I heard from friends that it is best to get there early but not that early (?)

I'm thinking that this was the case in December due to the HC not doing postal apps and the postal strikes....

As I'm not a morning person (and hate queuing) I'm thinking of getting there late and fingers crossed that I'll still get seen.

Any thoughts or more recent experiences? Thanks.

Postal applications

My wife and I made postal applications just before Christmas and we received our visas without any problem about 10 days later.

Tallbird No one has come on and said about going in person to get their visa since before Christmas.
Bit late now but why didnt you post it ? its less than 2 week turnaround.

I think you best bet is to go there Tuesday at a early time 7am and see if you manage to get your visas if not at least you have a few more days to go back and try again

Visa queues

I turned up at 10:10 got a number from the guy behind the window to return at 11:15. Did so and was out in 1 hour.
It worked for me.

Thanks for comments. It's all been very spontaneous and last minute! But I'm off to the HC tomorrow morning, getting there early and we shall what happens.
I'll let you know how I get on.

I thought I'd update you on getting visas in person in London. I went today, arrived at 8.15am loads of people waiting, the queue went all the way round the corner (basically to opposite the post office - for those who know the area and the weather was atrocious btw, cold, wet and windy). I got my Q ticket by 9.30am to go back at 10.30. I finally received my visa after more queuing, waiting and going back for my passport at 12.15pm. So all in all not a very pleasant experience.

However, I did notice on arriving back to the HC at 10.15am that there was noone queuing for Qticket and they were handing them out to come back at 2pm. I reckon that this really is the best option!!

I suppose it just boils down to how lucky (or not) you are on the day.

I've now booked my flight and arrive in Mumbai this Thursday lunchtime, really looking forward to it as it's my first time!!
