Leaving Day Visa Expires - That ok?

Hi, as the title says, I've realized (doh) that my previous visa expires the day I'm booked to next leave India. Is that going to be a problem? What if plane gets delayed?

I've searched IM and not found discussion of this issue.

Hm. There was some mention of it here: How far should the 180 days be pushed?

I'm not sure about the 179th day as opposed to the 180th day (or similar, in case of other visa constructs). As Nick notes there, and provided you're in the airport and in case of delays, I doubt if it would cause you much trouble. But that's just my gut feeling.

May be best to call your Indian embassy about it.

If it's close wihin a day or two .... it might be wise to get a fresh one issued - not worth the mental drama to take a chance with delays/unforeseen circumstances caused by the "Indian time" factor.

It's valid until it's expired!

I think most of us like to leave some room for problems, but given that you have a visa for a certain date, plus a ticket to leave on that date, I see no problem.

If the flight is delayed by hours, then you will have already passed through emmigration.

In the rare and highly unlikely event of the flight being delayed by days, then you might have to spend one of those days at the FFRO getting the visa extended.

Thanks Nick (and the rest.) If I get to Chennai (50:50 Chance) I will go and try to set up some cushion. Otherwise, I'll take my chances as I've not time to upgrade on this end before scheduled to go. That is, if I go when planned. Got some medical news today that may change things a bit.

Sorry to hear it, Diana. Or is it the happy kind of unexpected news? Not that it's any of my/our business.

Best wishes in any case.

Thanks and no, nothing top secret. Looks like I need surgery on my spine but it's of the routine sort. Will know more next week but the neuro doc's saying not to delay, yada yada...

Thanks for the concern.
