leaving and re-entering on a SINGLE ENTRY visa - stopover
Dear All,
I have a 6 months SINGLE ENTRY tourist visa for India. I came to India at the end of August 2010, and I have a scheduled flight leaving the country on the last day of the validity of the visa, namely on the 8th of February 2011 (leaving for Istanbul, Turkey). I hold a Swedish passport.
I am leaving from Mumbai airport.
However, I would like to spend some weeks in Thailand before returning home - so I was thinking to buy tickets Mumbai-Bangkok and back, making sure to come back to Mumbai airport on the 7th or on the 8th of February 2011 - and then WITHOUT LEAVING THE AIRPORT - board the flight back to Europe.
Question: Can I do this without any additional documents/permits?
Or do I need some sort of "transit visa" even though I am not entering the country (only waiting at the airport) for the time that I will spend at the airport?
Note: I will have luggage to check-out from the Bangkok flight, that I then would need to check-in again for the flight to Istanbul on the 8th of February.
Thanks for any comments!! Much appreciated!!!
Cheers, Daniel

If you are flying Turkish Airline (I would presume that Turkish is the only airline flying to Istanbul from BOM) ask then if for a fee, and change your out bound BOM-IST to BKK-IST, this way you only need one-way ticket from Mumbai to Bangkok.
Transit visa is the safer bet for you if the above mention plan is not feasible. I notice that Turkish & Thai Airlines are both StarAlliance members, which can help provided you have some status with either airline.
