Latest Visa Story

On Saturday I met an immigration officer. She told me that they believe 80% of people coming in on Tourist visas are then getting involved in business. (EDIT, thinking about this, she must mean the long term tourists). This is their reason for tightening up. She also had a strong view that by refusing long term visas to British, that they are only "reciprocating" the way British immigration treat Indian applicants.

Furthermore a retired English couple that I know who previously held 1 year X visas were last time only given 6 month X visas. They went to the FRO in Panjim to extend within the 90 day deadline. Reasons given for wanting to extend and stay in Goa included retirement in Goa and a medical condition which meant that he shouldn't travel too much. They were asked for a medical letter. They rushed off to get the letter and returned to the FRO in 3 days. They were told the application had already been sent off. 2 weeks later there was a knock at the door....it was the local police who told them to report to the FRO. Last Monday they went to the FRO and were told that they had to leave the country within 2 weeks. They were handed a letter dated 11th Oct and this was 16th. In the letter amongst other things was the comment that if they wanted to retire "they should retire in their own country".
They are catching the train to Trivandrum today.
My visa is under extension at the moment so I'm wondering if I'm next to get the "knock".

Just a footnote, I must go to the UK in January to see my daughter, and my wife is arriving Nov 3rd, so a knock on the door would be inconvenient to say the least.

No No...this is no eye for and eye treatment. But this is also a fact that many...many overseas clients are engaged in business activities..specially in real estate. This is making situtation tough in GOA as there is alreadya drive again THIS.

Yes- there is possibility of a KNOCK. But in such conditioned..some innocent people also suffers..
