Just a Normal Visa???
We are hoping to go to Goa from Dec to March. All we want is a normal tourist Visa. I have looked on the websites and cannot for the life of me find if i can just go up to London, Victoria, get a visa and come home again.
Theres no phone number to make an appointment so if we download the forms, fill them in and take them in the morning can we get the visa in the afternoon and not have to stay in London overnight. Sorry for being a bit dense but thats all I would like to know. Thanks for the information if somebody has done this simple procedure before or is it not that simple?![]() |

You'd better look at this thread:
Applying for an Indian Visa in the UK: Your Questions and Experiences Just check out the last few pages. The answer to most of your questions is "no". a_f_d --- indeed not very helpful: You've given her a site for people seeking visas to enter UK! ![]() Lillylilly: the site you want is http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk. They tell me that all the instructions for applying online, getting an appointment, submitting your application, going back for your visa... are all there. |

Well I have looked and looked and nothing is straighforward or that clear - never mind Turkey is just as bad. We will ring them when we get to UK, make an appointment, previously filling in the forms and just go up for the day........no way is my passport being out of my sight with couriers or other agents. If we cant do this then we shall go elsewhere without all the problems. Thanks for your help.

You cannot get your visa in a day
The way to get an appointment is to do your application online, print it out and get an appointment. See the thread. No big problems at all --- and if you think they are, then just check out the site that a_f_d gave you and see what it is like trying to get a visa for UK! Repeat: the site you need is http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk a_f_d gave the wrong one. |

You can only get an appointment to submit your application at one of their Visa Application Centres (VACs) if you complete your application form online, it then gives you your choice of appointment day, although not choice of times. If you don't have an appointment you can just turn up and wait, but it can take many hours to be seen. Quote:
It IS simple if you follow the instructions on the VFS website. If you do daft things like deciding to send them a cheque just because you think they "should" take cheques, it won't be simple. Quote:
Andy, did you not read what Nick said? The link which I'm sure you so helpfully provided in perfectly good faith actually gives information for people wanting UK VISAS. Lillylilly wants an INDIAN VISA. ![]() Nope, has to be done online, see above. Quote:
If you've applied online you can track when it's ready on the VFS website.

To obtain an Visa in Ankara you have to be a resident of Turkey and we are not. Also they want to know the ins and outs of your finances. Anyway as we are going "home" its easier (we thought) to get it in UK and have a day in London visiting friends and not letting our passport out of our sight.
I will read read and read again all the advice and then get brainbox to sort it all out![]() |

Lillylilly --- it is harder, more expensive and takes longer since the High Commission closed their counters and outsourced the operation. Sad, but there's nothing any of us can do about that
. It is still not very hard, though, and, in terms of time, there may even be less queueing than in the old system, if you apply on line, print out the forms, and take them yourself. Big difference is that it can no longer be done in one visit on one day. |

Aw well thank you thank you I will use the time to visit me roots and take my scouser husband to sample the delights of "pie n mash" an East End curry and some smoked salmon and cream cheese Bagels and visit a few old haunts while we will get our visas. See you all in Goa, our next research stop is somewhere for him to de stress and play a guitar while out there, but thats another thread!!?? Thanks to all once again.

Keep in mind that its a one size fits all types of visa form (sort of like American clothing) so it looks more complicated than it is for a tourist visa..
