Is It Possible To Get an Employment Visa in Nepal

I have been volunteering and traveling in India on a 10 yr multi-entry toursit visa (lucky American) for nearly 6 months. I have received an offer of employment I would like to accept. Can I go to Kathmandu and apply for an employment visa? Will this make me lose my 10 yr multi-entry tourist visa? Finally, as my primary job responsibilities will be research-related will an employment visa be acceptable? I know there is another category of visa - a research visa - if you are a foreigner doing any research in India. However, I've heard nightmares about securing such visas, even for Fullbrighters, and am wondering if an employment visa is acceptable.

I sent an email to the Indian embassy in Nepal a couple months back asking if I could get an Indian employment visa there even though I am not a resident of Nepal. They replied and said that yes it was possible, but by that time I had already made other arrangements so never went to Nepal to try it out. If you want to make sure, you could always just phone them and ask (or email and wait about 3wks for a reply).
