Inner Line Permit question - number of persons?

Hi,

is getting an ILP for two people possible? I need ILPs for two people in both Rekong Peo and Leh - am I going to have trouble? does the 4 people minimum rule still apply? Should I go via a travel agent and create two ficticious names? Or should I do this direct with the ILP office?
Also, are the permits only 7 days max? And can I sleep/camp anywhere I want in the permit areas?

thanks for any input.

Hi! For Leh I don't think you need a permit unless you go via Parang La. For Kinnaur it depends where you want to get it, but it should not be a problem even if you apply alone. In case, you will be directed to a "proper" travel agent who can fix the ILP for a fee.

I do not think that you HAVE to go through any agent. Although these policies keep changing without any proper information to poor travelers.

But you can certainly get a PERMIT to travel on HT road at RECONG PEO. People I met there are good. Just write a application with your P.P size images with details of Passport No: and VISA No:

You have to attach zerox copies of these pages from your passport and they will be giving it to you.

If someone says about AGENT-you can say that you are budget traveler and you do not know or afford one !

Wishing you safe and happy journey !

If you are thinking of going to Khardung La, Nubra, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri or Drok Pa then you do need a permit. Four person rule is not enforced on Indians, however for foreigners it can be enforced.

Hi! In Shimla the ONLY way to get a permit for 2 people was, sometime ago,to go to a travel agent (who would then share his fee with the concerned authorities I guess). In Peo 3 people was good enough.

Hi! Trying to answer the other questions: generally you get 7 days for Kinnaur, but in Shimla via the agent we got 2 weeks. And then because we got stuck inside the restricted area due to bad weather we got an extension of 25 days in Pooh, but that could have been a bout of good luck. And moreover the SDM(or ADC I can't remember)office forgot to warn the cops, who started searching for us everywhere, but in the end we had no problem. As far as i know with your permit you can go and stay basically everywhere,in some places the Indo Tibetan Border Police will stop you from going any further. It is best to ask before you venture in places very near to the border, because breaking the rules means going to jail. In Kaza you routinely get a 7 days ILP even if you are alone,in a hour.
