Hi
I'll be getting my indian visa soon. But would like some advice. Does the tourist visa last for 6 months? And how do i go about making the tourist visa a multiple entry one I have read POOKSTAR's thread and that was very helpful but she did not answer the above questions. Thanks Mike |

In the UK a 6months tourist visa starts from the day they issue it and It's automatically issued as multiple entry,

I see what your saying Trvlin, but I think what 70s hippy is is getting at is that the single entry visas were phased out a long time ago maybe. The form obviously has'nt been updated a bit like the asking for two referrees which is also no longer observed!!
Perhaps it is better to err on the side of caution (these are Indian goverment workers after all) but I think multiple entry visas are the only option available these days!! My last 8 visas have been multiple entry and they were issued automatically here in The Netherlands without my asking so to speak! |

Nobody is arguing here simply putting forward their experience in getting a visa!
Since it's such an easy thing to do I'll go with trvlin's idea of filling in the visa form with the requirements as stated by the Indian consulate services. It takes but a second and everyones expectations are met. Strange though trvlin we don't have this part on the visa form in the Netherlands but then we don't get 10 year visas the same as the folks stateside (lucky buggers) |

I find that to be alarming, and have said so, and explained why. Yes, I'm sticking with what I said earlier and that is based on the visas I got one month ago & the visas which I know other people have received more recently. |

trvl_in is talking about Canada. India has different rules for different countries. What happens in Canada has nothing to do with what happens in London.
Here in UK the tourist visa system is a money-making excercise. If you have a British passport and they have no reason to be suspicious they just take your £30 and give your your 6 month visa, "Thanks, Next Please!". I know people who can only get 3-month tourist visas, and others who's applications are considered for weeks. They are either not British citizens or not of British origin. |

Multiple entry 6 month visas are not automatically given. I have heard of instances where people were given 3 month and single entry visas at HCI London. It's within the rights of the HCI to give a visa for less than the 6 month period.
In fact, this problem was discussed a few years ago on TT and this forum. Fill in the visa form according to your requirements. So far we have had no problems. |

Lets ask this question,
Hands up anyone who DIDN'T get a 6month multiple entry visa from london whether requested or not in the last few years. |

I have just been to the Birmingham Consulate to get my visa.
All tourist visa are now issued for 6 months and mutliple entry as standard. I even requested single entry and got multiple. As other correspondents have said, this is a money making venture so check the price list. If it is on the price list it is real and, at Birmingham, there is no single entry visa option. Best Wishes Mark Townsend
