Indian passport not stamped upon arrival in Delhi

My mother who is an infrequent international flier just arrived in Delhi this morning. There was utter chaos over swine flu forms of some sort and she was waved through when she enquired if she could pick up her luggage. No one stopped her when she walked out of arrivals with her bags without getting her passport stamped at the immigration desk upon arrival back in India.

A serious security lapse and now the cause of immense concern for us since her departure from UK/arrival back in India from London has not been recorded in the UK or in India.

What advice can you give her? What can we do to get this error corrected so as not to jeopardise further travel to UK or application for UK and other visas? ANy advice will be greatly appreciated.

If she has an Indian passport will this be a huge problem? Just recently I was looking at my NZ passport and not once is there a stamp for in and out of NZ, although it is entered on their computer, and I imagine this is what has happened to hers. Did they do computer entering with her passport?

Regardless of the passport origin (Indian or foreign), she may have a problem when she departs India at the Emigration counter. The officer will be looking for the stamp on entry and when he does not find it, he is going to question. It might well be that he scanned the appropriate page and that it has been recorded on the computer - if so that should be fine.

In any case, there is no use fretting about it, tell her to have a good trip and enjoy it. At the departure point, whatever will be will be. If the officer acts tough, just tell him "OK, I will just stay in India - Namaste."

Cheers

Passport not stamped upon arrival-pt 2

Yes indeed! This is a HUGE problem for her as she was meant to get it stamped at delhi upon arrival. That is the only record that she has returned from UK and is back in India. Without this stamp she will not be able to apply for any further UK visas. really frantic for her.

Your mother needs to get her passport stamped as quickly as possible. Failure to do so will prevent her from leaving India.

I would go back to the airport with my arrival ticket as proof and also with someone who speaks Hindi and find someone with immigration authority and explain the situation.

they would have to be pretty stupid to believe that your mother snuck into the country from the UK!
