Indian Consulate General Edinburgh - Advice

Hi there,

Ive read a lot of info about people applying for tourist visa's at the Edinburgh consulate. I did so today, so im posting this as to offer advice as to how to go about it.

Firstly. You have to hand in your paperword between 9.30am and 12.30pm

Then. You go back to pick up your newly visa'd passport at 4pm.

Basically, if you are going to have to hang around in between, dont bother going there early...it just adds to the hours you have to hang around (unless you want to spend some time in edinburgh doing stuff). Also, contrary to what has been said before, there were three people in the queue in front of me who were told to go away and resubmit when they had hotel information for the reference section.

I normally send my postal application for a visa to Edinburgh.

The process takes about a week using Recorded Delivery.

I have also been to a "Visa Surgery". The HCI London web site has details of these surgeries. They are held all over the UK once or twice a year, and if you arrive early enough, you can get your visa on the spot.

Visa from Edinburgh

My parents live near London and sent their visa applications to Edinburgh. They received them in just over a week.

I live nearer to Edinburgh than I do to London, and I sent my visa application to Edinburgh on 25th October, specifying my date of travel as 15th November.

It arrived back with a note instructing me to send it to London or Birmingham!

Maybe they are too busy in the Edinburgh office - but be warned - if you are in a hurry, don't post your application to Edinburgh!
