Hi!
I'd like to know what I have to do to be elligible (spelling,,,!)for this magnificent visa? What great luck it would be to be able to get a 10 year tourist visa! I am an american citizen. I live and work in France. Does it matter WHERE I apply? Where do I apply for best results? The french Indian councilate (Paris) site seems to be reorganising these days and I get no infos from them!!!! Can I apply to the Counsulate in San Francisco? By mail? Are there any problems I could run into? Thanks so much for any (good) advice you take the time to give me! ![]()

May be you should contact the Indian Embassy in London to see if you can get the visa from here in London and spend a day in London as visa is normally granted the very same day. http://www.hcilondon.net/index.jsp |

As a citizen of the USA with a USA passport you are eligible for a 10 year tourist visa. (You still cannot stay in India longer than 180 days no matter what kind of visa you have. You still have to leave the country after 180 days but can come back in again without obtaining another visa).
The BIG question is, can a US citizen get this 10 year visa at a foreign (not USA) consulate and I don't know. I believe you have to be living in the USA to get this 10 year visa, but I may be wrong. Here is the website for getting a visa in the USA. The New York consulate outsourced its visa services in October to this company. Perhaps you can contact them directly and see if you can do it through them by mail. It would mean mailing in your passport to the USA and you would be without it for a short while. And shipping charges for both directions would be expensive. This website has alot of information, click on "requirements" to see information. http://indiavisa.travisaoutsourcing.c om/ It may be best to first speak to someone in Paris at the India Consulate. |

The link
Hi! I live in France, so I don't need my passport all the time, you see. London is a bit far and expensive, no?
I went to the link you gave me, but saw no mention of ten year visas. Only 5 year ones. Thanks for your concern! Last edited by all-one-heart : Jan 4th, 2008 at 21:15. Reason: clairifying |

180 days

Well, that's a bit stiff, but is always better than spending time in places where you have to go to an Indian Councelat! Thanks for the info!Last edited by all-one-heart : Jan 4th, 2008 at 21:06. Reason: readability |

1. Looks like you cannot do it by mail from France. The mail form only lists the US and US protecterates & people in the military.
https://indiavisa.travisaoutsourcing...r?apply=bymail 2. At that website above, under requirements and under tourist visa it says on the first line "10 years" https://indiavisa.travisaoutsourcing...uidelines?id=1 I think it's best to find out from the Paris consulate if you can get it there since someone suggested that the 10 yr. could be done outside the USA. Seems logical but who says bureaucracies are logical ![]() |

I think I would second that since Travisa is not a government site but an outsourcing agency..

They type and duration of visa that you are able to get should be determined by your nationality, rather than your residence.
--- is my guess.

Visit USA and do it?
When I visit my sister this summer, maybe I could mail off my passeport to the Counsil in San Francisco and do the visa thing at that time?
What ya say? ![]() |
