do not go to sri lanka to renew your visa! Recently they have received new instructions and will not give more than 3 months and sometimes even less.

I have been staying in india for a year and a half now with six months visas. I am French so I got my first visa from france, second one from sri lanka, then again in france and again in sri lanka. But this time in Sri Lanka, they told me I have been spending too much time in india and gave me only a 2 months visa. I don’t understand why because I thought you someone could get as many visas as he wants as long as they go out of india everytime before the visa is over.

I'd like to know if people have similar experiences and what solution they heve foud if they found any. I was also thinking about a student visa and would appreciate any information on this.

Well this does not suprise me. A clamp down on this sort of back to back visa nonsense I think has something to do with people using them to complete a 183 day stay in a fiscal year to buy property.

A legal loophole in the law, which is too complex to go in to now. They are closing it up now as they do not want foreigners buying land here.

The fact that you are in Goa all the time adds to it as this is where all the trouble has kicked off with land purchase etc.

This I believe is part of the problem from reading papers here in Goa.

They have the right to issue any visa they wish or even refuse one!

I think they have decided (or maybe it was us here!) that a tourist visa in itself defeats the purpose of stay, but, for whatever reason, the message is that long-termers are no longer welcome.
