How long does an employment visa take to process?

So, I'm in India now and I've been offered a job so I need to fly back to Canada (my home country) to get the employment visa, then fly back here to start work. I've searched through every word on the embassy website but can not find out how long it takes to process an employment visa. I need to know this, as I need to book return tickets ASAP! I know I won't be able to find out the EXACT time, but a general idea of approximately how many weeks would be great!

I will be going back to Edmonton but the nearest Indian Embassy is in Vancouver so I will have to deal with them. Does anyone have any experience with them?

This may seem like a silly question, but is the processing time shorter if I go in person as opposed to mailing the application in? Or are all received applications added to the same pile?

Please help! I need to sort this out ASAP!

You will have to go in person. Usually they will ask you a couple of questions and then you can tell them to mail the passport back to you. Should be not more than 15 working days maximum.
