Question How does a triple visa work?

I'm so confused.

So if I get a 90 day triple/double entry visa does the visa expire after 90 days since first entering the country or does it just count days?

For example I spend 30 days in india, 15 days in Nepal, do I have 60 or 45 days left in India?

It expires 90 days later irrespective of whether you are in India or not.

And 90 days is from Visa issue date, NOT from the date you enter the country.
Indian Visas are valid from date of issue, not from date of entry into the country.

Moreover, irrespective of your triple-entry visa, if you leave the country, you need to (generally speaking, it may vary for some nationalities) stay out for two months between visits. (It can be applied for to have this requirement waived, together with the visa application.)

The visa will give an expiry date. That's when it expires. So in the given example, 90 days upon issue.

In my opinion machadinha is wrong on this - a double or triple entry visa is usually issued when an itinerary has been submitted, in which case you are free to follow your itinerary.

Aha, indeed (and I'd been wondering about that as I was typing it, so thanks for the correction). Going by some recent discussions and some digging around, that would probably be correct; it was just a caution that getting issued one by default, but not having met those requirements (of submitting itinerary etc.), it remains to be seen what good it would be, if you don't stay out for that period, or apply for an exemption.

Confusing stuff and continually in flux it seems, no
