How bad is the backlog in London due to the postal strikes for the past 2 months

England (and Uk) has been witnessing postal strikes on and off for the past 3 months. Sorting offices have millions of undelivered post. How has this affected the OCI department in London. I called yesterday and they said that they have piles of unopened mail.i suspect this is across all departments. Happens when mail is deleivered in huge batches intermittently. Anyone know more about this from inside or outside the HC. My family OCI shows item deliverd on 29/9/09. Not yet acknowledged on the website.

I doubt it has affected them at all.

Firstly, passports are (or at least should be) send by special delivery, and this gets priority during strikes. There are definitely no piles of special delivery packages in the sorting offices.

If applications WERE being held up at sorting offices, it means that the applications such as yours, which have already reached the HCI will be dealt with quicker.

It also happens every single year in the autumn when lots of people suddenly decide that it's time to apply for visas / OCI / PIO all at the same time, I really wouldn't blame the postal strike too much for this!

Under normal circumstances, the OCI acknowledgment date is about two weeks from the date a person mails this in (Of course I am citing based on CGINY Tracker data ) I gather there was an extra holiday in India - Oct 2nd.

Certainly in the past I have noticed significant differences between times quoted for processes carried out by the HCI London / Indian Missions in the US, and between VFS UK / Travisa US, so I'm not sure how relevant those figures will be.

Currently, OCI is not handled by Travisa US. One has to mail it directly to the OCI cell of the consulate which has juridiction over your town/village/city. Once applications are received by the consulate, it goes to India and back using the diplomatic pouch. I would assume +/- 3 days between these two countries. Since they might have similar loads; with US based OCI applications being slightly more than UK.
