I don't know about the HCI London but the embassy in The Hague is a mess, big bundles of passports and applications lying around on floors even more piled on desks.
Sounds like the standard filing system.

PIO Application - eight weeks and two days later...

We 'phoned the HCI London today and they say that they have found my application and are waiting for a piece of paperwork from India.

This could be a euphemism for "we have just opened it".

Thank goodness for that… panic over!

Brilliant news, John

Does that mean I can uncross my fingers now?

OK! Go ahead and uncross your fingers, and you can also breathe again if you were holding your breath.

I won't relax until I receive all the paperwork, including my PIO Card, in the post.
