E - visa registration

Hi

I have another questions. I'm currently doing an internship for 4 month in Chennai. I got a employment visa for a duration of 6 month. I found the information on different websites that only long-term (more than 180 days) visa need to be registered. So I didn't. Now I'm worried that I will get troubles when I will leave India because my six month are actually a few days more than 180 days.

On the website of the Indian embassy in Switzerland is always mentioned 6 month (180 days). Does anybody know how they handle it?

Any suggestions what I should do? Just wait or do a late registration?

Sarah

I'm surprised that the your E visa in your passport didn't state that registration is required within 14 days, as did all of mine.

The important thing is the expiry date on your visa -- that, not information on the web (including Indian Embassy websites, which sometimes have conflicting information). You have to exit India by that date unless you're able to get an extension.

That is not correct.

The official Indian Immigration website states on the "Registration Req. link:

Quote:
All foreigners including <snip> Employment Visa(E) and Missionary Visa (M) will be required to get themselves registered with concerned Registration Officer within 14 days of his/her first arrival, irrespective of the duration of their stay.
You need to yet yourself to your FRRO straight away, be extremely apologetic and ask them to regularise your situation. Right now, you are in breach of the terms of your visa, which is a situation that you really don't want to be in, but which should be able to be recitifed if you deal with it now at minimal cost and inconvenience to you.

Thanks for your answer.

I found this information on the website but the full text is:

Quote:
All foreigners including foreigners of Indian origin visiting India on long term (more than 180 days) Student visa(S) (including those coming for study of Yoga, Vedic Culture, Indian system of dance and Music), Research Visa(R), Employment Visa(E) and Missionary Visa (M) will be required to get themselves registered with concerned Registration Officer within 14 days of his/her first arrival, irrespective of the duration of their stay.
So I think it means that only if the visa is valid for more than 180 days registration is required.

From http://www.immigrationindia.nic.in/ in the Instructions (foreigners) link:
It is a mandatory requirement for all Foreigners arriving on Missionary(M),Student(s), Employment(E),Research(R),Medi cal (M) or Medical Attendant (M X) visa to register themselves within 14 days of their first arrival in India, irrespective of duration of stay.
Don't know the source of your quote, but your statement is at odds with at least one government site, so better to get to the FRRO and get it cleared up ASAP. You don't want any surprises at the airport...

All foreigners are required to register.

They then exclude the ones they "let off", as it were.

It cost nothing to get opinions here --- but it also costs nothing to go to the FRRO and ask!

My opinion is that an Employment-visa visitor needs to register. They'll soon tell you if they don't agree with that!
