HELP! Unable to leave India!!

Please help!

I came to India on an employment visa in January. I did not realise but I was to register this visa in India within 14 days of my arrival and did not.

Now, I am being told I am unable to leave the country without my registration papers??

What do I do?

I need to get back to Canada!

Please help!!!

Where in India are you staying? If you are in Goa I can get it all sorted out within a day.

It all depends on in which city you were employed because the FRO of that city has jurisdiction. I can only help you if you were employed in Goa.

Hello,

If you are going to Delhi you could maybe go into the Canadian Embassy and ask for assistance.

Good luck

You need to go back to your FRO and ask them what steps you need to take to regularise your position.

I have it on very good authority that the Delhi Canadian Embassy's response to someone who violated a well publicised law and obligation on foreign residence would be - and I quote - "Suck it up Princess".

While this does sum up the essence of the extent of their ability to deal with people's infractions of Indian law, I do suspect that some wine may have been imbibed prior to this response being given.

Here is the address to the FFRO in Delhi,

East Block-8, Level-II,
Sector-1, R.K. Puram,
New Delhi-110066

The telephone number is 26711443, they are open 9-12 pm to take requests, I believe. I know going late in the afternoon is no use, because you need to have the forms in before 12 for them to return your papers. Sometimes it takes a few days and then you have to pick them up later.

I am pretty sure that GoanCanuck is right, and that you need to deal with your local office, at least in the first instance.

Not of any use to the OP. He/she has to deal with the FRO assigned to her area.

I can surely vouch for that claim.

If you're going to Delhi you might, just might, get some help from the Ministry for Home Affairs at Jaisalmer House (but expect a rough time, you've broken the law, and I'll bet the Registration requirement is stamped right there on your visa!) - or they may refer you to the FRO/FRRO (ditto).

I went to the FRRO in Delhi...they said it is no problem to register the visa late but I do have to return to the city in which I came. Which is not going to be easy but I guess I have no choice.

My friend that was stuck here took a chance booked another flight went back to the airport and got through without being asked anything.

Im still stuck here
