HELP!! Passports dog-toothed not dog-eared

Namaste people,
I'm in need of some quick advice, due to fly out to India next friday for a years employment, but returned home to find the dog had had a slight chew on my passport. No major damage, tearing etc. just a few small holes on the cover and a few of the inner pages, the chip in the back has not been damaged either.
Anyone know if I will have any problems with this? As the timescale and funds are slightly tight to get a replacement.

Any input is much appreciated.

Give your appropriate ministry/city council/municipal register/embassy/passport peeps a ring?

Good luck with it.

hmmmmm....at a guess you will need to get it replaced. In the past few years boarder agencies have been - whats the phrase - more humourless the usual and just don't give an inch in relation to travel documents. If your going somewhere like the states - turning up from anywhere in north or south asia with a chewed passport just wont be fun at all (sorry sir....but the dog ate my passport)!

Mach's advice is a good one. Where ever you're travelling to give the embassy a ring. Does the chewed passport have your entry visa for the destination you're going to?

You need a note from your parents.

"Paul did get a passport, but the dog ate it".

(No, seriously, what machadinha said)

Paul, it may be worth while giving UK Passport Agency a call. They will replace it the same day in London, take your ticket with you..

What are you up to?

If the cover page with photo and that bar-like code that has alphanumeric letters embedded within lots of >>>> is intact, they will be able to run your passport thru a reader. But its best to check with an embassy.. err.. is there a British embassy in Britain? Else call the Indian one.

Aside: Why would a dog chew on a PP... did you spill curry or beer on it? Its usually a cat thing.

Oh, esp. the young 'uns have a 6th sense to home in on your most prized possession for due destruction. So a couple of days before departure... Yes, I can just picture it

(Note to dog owners: store personal documents somewhere high & dry.)

ps Where I live a passport can be replaced real quickly if necessary yes, I suppose that as indicated above it is so in the UK too. Will cost you some (or substantially rather); such is life I guess (and such are the joys of being a pet owner).

theres only slight damage to it, photo page and the chip in the back are undamaged. Its more the front cover and the corners of the front pages. Unfortunately cant get same day on a damaged passport and even if i could theres no appointments until next Wednesday.
The visa's not in there yet so thinking I might risk seeing if i can get it stamped and then blagging it at the airport.

Presumably you'll be applying for your visa sometime between now and next Friday?

Make an appointment for Wednesday at the Passport Agency and try to get your visa on Tuesday. If they refuse due to the damage then you can get a replacement passport on Wednesday and try again for a visa on Thursday. Don't forget Monday is a holiday.

Well, between the hassle of running around a bit and possibly paying some extra now (or being told it's not a problem by those in the know), or the hassle and costs of being refused before boarding or en route or upon landing and arranging a new ticket and yada yada... your call.

ps Only on rereading now does the employment bit of your original message strike me:

Right. Your call ("Ring, ring. Hi, boss. No, I'm back in London. No, yes, you see, the dog... Oh, and will you ask those movers to hold my stuff?")

As long as you have the main last page undamaged, and Visa page is ok, I think you'll be ok and you shouldn't have much problem apart from immigration making few checks.. Hey, have a great trip.

Well it was turned down at the visa office and the passport office no longer do a one day service unless its for a replacement so will be a week from Wednesday until I have a pristine passport.
On the plus side it means I will now be able to change the dreadful photo in it, and my employers have pushed my start date back a week. Which strangely means I will be flying into Delhi exactly a year after I left from Heathrow last time.
