I would like to enquire if anyone who's currently on a business visa - What is the validity they have received in their passport from the FRRO authorities. Is it an official sticker or stamp? Iv'e had many Indian business/tourist visas issued in the past from Australia and they have placed official stickers in my passport stating the following:
'Republic of India' -Visa No -Passport no -Multiple entry/double entry -Date of issue/expiry However, the business visa i was recently granted in India has been stamped by the FRRO of U.P and states very minimal info: 'Permitted to stay in India up to....' FRRO/SP.Police Noida I presume that when i leave India for 1 week and return, i may face problems as the Australian authorities may question this.. The stamp looks like a company stamp with the missing blanks filled in with blue pen…looks odd to me. In my humble opinion it doesn't look legitimate for any foreign authorities to pass. I am curious to know if FRRO Delhi procedure is different...In U.P the foreigners are a minority compared to Delhi ratio and FRRO may not be aware of the full procedures. 1/ Should there be something more proper validated or is the stamp sufficient? 2/ If so, what type of info do they normally complete on the visa? 3/ Has anyone ever questioned this stamp VS sticker? 4/ Would i need to surrender my 'residential permit' upon leaving the country - I'll be retirning before it's expiry Apologies for so many questions....but am getting very concerned. Confused |

This is my feeling about this one. I'm no expert, and I stress that I don't know...
Permitted to stay in India up to stamp is used for extending visas, eg when a person has overstayed die to sickness or something. It might also be used while a visa extension for something like a business visa is being considered. It ensures you won't have any problems with the authorities when you leave India. My question is: does it get you back in again? I don't think there's anything wring with the stamp as such, I've seen more-or-less the same thing handwritten on the back of an emergency "passport" (travel document issued when passport has been lost), but that was not meant to cover any return trip, as the person involved had to leave India for a new visa anyway, and, having lost her passport, had to return to UK. Not much help, but perhaps a crumb of food for thought...

Dear Elle,
Yes I was in the same situation as you not so long ago. In fact I had a sticker Business visa in my passport (which had alreayd been ammended by hand due to a silly mistake by the Indian Embassy in Paris issuing me a tourist visa for 6mths, then changing the T to a B!!!! fortunatly they stamped it saying "rectified" but still it caued many eyebrow raising... So, the Visa extension I was given was exactly like the one you described, only a blue stamp with handwritten details of date and the SSP signature. It was also given to me by the UP Kanpur Police. I don't know if it is too late fro you, but this is to confirm that it IS valid. I was able to leave the country (to France) and return using thisstamp. Although my visa was not checked at the airport in France befroe leaving (very very odd i know), however, the guy at N Delhi airport spent a LONG time looking at it and called three of his collegues over before letting me through. I have since received a second B visa extension from the FRO which has been stamped on my registration / resident permit. THIS worries me I have to say..... the same stamp valid on the resident permit and NOT the passport??? Anyone got any experience of that? or sshould i return to get it done in my passport too :s Hope my info is was helpful! |
