Exclamation Help: how to change my name in passport. I have taken on my husband's full name

i got married under the special marriage act. I recently applied for a name change in my passport as I took on my husband's full name after marriage. now i am told by someone that the procedure to change surname after marriage (in which you just attach a marriage certificate for special act) is different from when you take on husband's full name. in which case you have to get the change of name printed in two newspapers and attach clippings to a new form as proof.
i cannot find the required information anywhere. help!

Please visit any regional Passport Office and you can get all the info you need to know. This is the best way as you aware of the docs required, procedure and all other details in one go.

I do not understand what you mean by husband's full name ? If you were Jane Q Random before, and husband's is John R Specific are you implying that you are gonna be called something other than Jane Q Specific ?

And what country's passport ?

I assuming its for an Indian passport.
The process involves submitting the passport along with a form for name change. You would also need to attach your marriage certificate.

Here is the relevant section from the checklist:
http://passport.gov.in/cpv/checklist.htm

(a) A woman applying for change of name/surname in existing passport due to marriage must furnish:
(i)Photocopy of the Husband’s passport, if any, and
(ii)An attested copy of marriage certificate issued by Registrar of Marriage OR an affidavit from the husband and wife along with a joint photograph, (Specimen at Annexure D).

This cover both taking up the surname and the full name. The clause being that the change in name is due to Marriage.
Only if the change in name is due to any other reason than marriage that you need to supply the newspaper clippings.

Married women applying for Passport after marriage

Hi,
I am planning to apply for a fresh passport first time. I am married. I have a doubt.Should I apply for passport with my husband surname(i.e. Narra) or should I apply with my surname(Marneni). Because, all my certificates(secondary, post secondary and all other documents) are on my surname even after marriage. I am now working as a government employee where my name is listed with my surname(Marneni). So, should i apply with my surname or my husband's surname?
Please reply. Thanks in advance.
