Give a copy or the original RP during departure

My girlfriend holds a residence permit valid for 3 years. A week ago she was departing from Mumbai, we were advised by the company here that helped us with our relocation not to hand over the original residential permit over to immigration while exiting for short holidays. If insisted upon by the immigration official we were told to tell them it was in our checked in baggage.
Now she was asked for the original when she handed over a copy and casually enquired "what if you lose it ? i'll have to go through the process all over again" to which the immigration officer replied "we will post it to your address", eventually the copy was accepted with a smirk. Does anyone have a similar experience or know what to definitely do and not do ? I know of someone who handed over her original RP and returned with 3 days left on her visa and the RP did not arrive at her address as told and she had to fly back to Bombay to retrieve her RP from the Bombay airport officials (who kept insisting it was posted to Bangalore) and was eventually "found" when the highest up was within reach to have a word with.

Hi,

I am foreign national living in bangalore on employment visa. I am employed here for 1 year. My wife had her first child here so we decided to go to our native country for few weeks so that grand parents can see the new born. While leaving India the Immigration officer took our orginal residential permit. Now i am back in india, do u know what i should do. Do i have to go to FRRO office to get a new residence permit. If any you can give me an adivce or let me know of your experience on similar issue it will be really helpful

Regards

rasahm, when they do that they are supposed to post it to the FRRO in Bangalore, so go and enquire asap, you will have probs without it when you want to exit the country next . Henceforth carry a copy of the RP with you when you exit the country and only hand that in at immig., if they ask for the original just say it's packed in checked in baggage.
