Getting Visa in the North of England
Hi,
Normally I get the visas from London, but I will be in the North of England over the Christmas period and want to get the visas for the next trip during this time. Can anyone advise me best place to go, I will be in Lancaster.

I am in Liverpool, which isn't too far from Lancaster, and always have to go down to Birmingham for a visa. It's either that or head to Scotland for it!

Hi, You could try a visa surgery which are held in Temples/mosques in the UK.IF you call the H.C. they will tell you where & when the nearest one to you is.
Here's a post i did about getting mine on another forum. well, i'm back complete with valid visa. Got to the surgery at 9.30am all completed by 11.15am waited in a hall with about 80 Indians & believe it or not about 20 Angrezi (English), i didn't think that many English new about it. It was a bit like sitting in an Indian bank with everything been done in triplicate & 5 people doing the job of 1 except it takes them 5 times longer, you know the one!!! But the best bit of all was THE SMELL! you know what i'm talking about. It was that smell of India, but without the really bad bits (one day someone will bottle it & make a fortune out of suckers like me!) The reason for the smell was because the room next door contained the temple & there was lots of incense being wafted about & the local Indian wives had spent the night before making refreshments to raise funds for charity. They were serving 1 big very fresh samosa with a portion of pakora & raita for £1 & a delicious chana masala, so i got 2 portions of each to bring home for lunch, i said to the woman kitne £s & couldn't believe it when she replied "AS YOU LIKE" anyway it's lunchtime now so i'm off to stuff my face & i think i'll definitely use the visa surgeries from now on! if you do go to birmingham - get there as early as possible. the queues can be horrendous and if you don't get it in early in the day you have to collect the next day. in fact this time of year I think all visas have to be collected next day.
the link is here http://www.cgibirmingham.org/visas_alt.htm it seems you can also get visas in edinburgh the address in brum is Consulate General of India, Birmingham 20 Augusta Street Jewellery Quarter Hockley Birmingham B18 6JL

I was at the Birmingham (UK) consulate this week for a visa. It was *very* busy. They claim to only accept the first 200 visitors each day, the rest are turned away - I was speaking in the queue to someone who was turned away the previous week, after a 3 hour drive to get there!
The queue was long by 8.30 in the morning - I would guess anyone arriving after 9.00 would be struggling. Not sure if there is an arrangement for those turned away to collect next day, but I am sure there is also an 'emergency' service (costs £25 extra?) if you are desparate. System was queue (doors open 9.30), get ticket with number, wait for number to be called, hand in visa forms etc, go away & come back at 15.00 to 16.30, queue, get visa :-) I arrived at 8.15, handed over my forms at around 10.00. Then back at 14.45, had my visa by 16.00. It makes for a long days queuing, do it by post of you can! My previous experience was in Edinburgh, which was a much more pleasant process. Probably only 20 people on the queue, done in 30 mins in the morning, collected in the afternoon with 5 min wait. That was 2 years ago, but also November time (the busy period). Just so folk know what to expect! |
