getting Indian visa in Bangladesh
Hi there,
I was hoping someone might know if it's possible to get an Indian visa while I'm in bangladesh? I've left it a little late to get my visa here (Melbourne, Aus) as the visa processing takes 14 days and I don't have that long before I leave. Any information would be helpful, thanks |

Are you absolutely sure it takes 14 days to get an Indian visa in Australia?
In the UK these days we can have an Indian tourist visa ( which I presume you're applying for) within a few hours if we apply in person. Generally speaking, it's less complicated to get the visa in your home country, the only problem being that it starts running from the date of issue, not the date of entry into India. I don't know about the particular situation in Bangladesh but hopefully someone will come up with an answer. |

Thanks for your response
Yep - it's a tourist visa, and the form I have says it takes 14 days to process with "strictly no urgent issues!!!" I haven't looked into whether going to the consulate in person would allow me to get it quicker because the travel agent I booked my ticket through told me that it didn't matter either way. Then again, the travel agent has pretty much been of know help whatsoever, so maybe I shouldn't be listening to her! I don't mind about receiving it now as it's a six month visa and I'll be leaving in mid february |

Hi-we just received our visas from the Indian consulate in Sydney. They took 5 working days for a six month tourist visa. Good luck.

Hi,
I had to leave India as my visa expired so I went to Bangladesh hoping to get a 6 month visa. It took about 3 weeks before the High Comission in Dhaka would give me a visa back to India but they only supplied me with transit visa for 7 day . I had to travel trough India & out to Nepal it was a lot of hassle. But that was about 9 years ago so maybe it has changed now, although I certainly wouldn't recommend it and personaly wouldn't try it again. |

Hi, thanks for all your help! I leave on the 9th of November and while it seems I have plenty of time, by passport is currently in the Bangladesh consulate in Canberra. Without it, I am unable to get my Indian visa and I'm not sure when I'm getting the passport back. It apparently takes working six days to get the Bangladesh visa, which means it should be done by this friday, but then it takes 2 working days for the visa and passport to be sent back to melbourne by secure post.
I rang the Indian consulate in Melbourne who told me it should take five working days to receive my visa if I go in person, but I think I'll only have four before I leave. I will still go in there straight away and explain the situation to them and perhaps they'll take sympathy and speed the process up ( I hope!) When I rang them they also told me that I would be able to get the visa in Bangladesh - but when I checked the Indian Consulate in Bangladesh website that crvlvr posted, it says only Bangladeshi nationals and foreigners residing in Bangladesh should apply there. I was hoping to email them and ask, but there is no email contact address. So there I am! A little confused and hoping very much that I am able to get the visa in Bangladesh. I will be there for over three weeks, so I'm thinking if I apply straight away it shouldn't be too much of a hassle. |

Here is a list of details for consulates and embassies in Bangladesh I notice the one in Chittagong has an attached e-mail address maybe you could try there for up to date info!! I hope you've learnt your lesson though, about not leaving everything to the last minute. What are you going to do if this all falls through? Go back to Thailand to pick up a Indian visa or cancel the India part of the trip. Folks plan up front, visas especially multiple visas take time, allow for that!!
