Getting an Indian visa in Holland?

hey folks,

my flight goes august 5 from amsterdam to chennai.

i'm wondering if anyone can tell me how long it will take to get a 6 month tourist visa from the indian embassy in the hague? i'm canadian.

i hear that the embassy is outsourcing the process and am now wondering if this is going to delay things.

i was told by a friend that it would be ready the same day. this info was a few years ago.

anyone got the latest low-down?

Don't want to worry you, but I vaguely seem to remember that the VFS who outsource in England will only issue visas in 2-3 days for British passport holders or people who are resident in England for over a year, one person was told they have to return home to apply, so I checked on the Dutch website. It says:

Quote:
Only for Dutch passports, EU passports with valid residence permit or registration cityhall and only for tourist and business visa.
The bold type is theirs by the way, not mine.

I really would try to speak to them today, best to be safe than sorry.

just got this from a friend:

I called the visumdienst (010 4049047)
you can visit their (indian) post in the hague (anna paulownastraat 26, between 8.30 and 17.30) and make there your request it's no problem, the only thing is that it takes longer then normal they have to send a telex somewhere, so it takes 5 working days extra (I don't know what is the normal duration...) and it cost around 30 euro extra.

hopefully the info holds up. i had a major problem a few years ago in canada because very often the person on the phone DOES NOT KNOW what the real deal is.

If it will take five additional working days then you should begin the process right now in case of delays.

Absolutely agree, losing a week from the end time of your visa has to be a small price to pay for ensuring you have one in time.

Well, two weeks in Holland isn't exactly a hardship!

(Haven't read this in detail, and I don't know about the process for foreigners here) Do check also this thread: Indian Visa Service in The Netherlands . It may mostly confirm what you've found already though.

ps Reading a little more closely then,

Yes, but while I can't guarantee this, from my reading so far this just means those are the categories handled by the visa service (and no longer by the embassy); all other applicants still have to go through the embassy (and not through the visa service). It doesn't seem to mean the latter won't be entertained.

Anyway, I take it CB's more-or-less set to go then That extra processing time will just be because they need to check back with your home country and so on, not at all uncommon I believe.
