| Getting a Tourist Visa while on an Employment Visa Hello Everyone, this is my first post on this website. So before I get to my question I just wanted to say a quick "thank you" to this website and to all the members for all the wonderful information you have posted. This has been a phenomenal resource for me. Now, my situation is this: I am a U.S. citizen on a multi-entry employment visa which expires on Dec 2nd 2012. I don't think I want to renew my contract with the company I am employed with for another year but I would like to see more of India before I get go back home to the United States. So my question is can I get a tourist visa for India which will start after my employment visa ends? And can it be done WHILE I am in India or do I have to go back home to the U.S. to get the tourist visa. If I can't do it while in India, can I go to a neighboring country to get the Indian Tourist visa? P.S. If there is already a thread on here that I have over looked, please post the link of that thread and I will gladly check it out. P.P.S. Thanks in advance for you assistance. | |

| You cannot get a "new" visa in India - you have to leave the country, apply for a new visa, and come back. Some neighbouring countries can be reluctant to issue visas for immediate return though - check the various "sticky" threads at the top of the page regarding this. | |

| A 3-month single entry visa may well be available in Sri Lanka - but plan a route home from there in case. There is no need for a 2-month gap. AndyD 8-)# | |
