Extension of tourist visa for few days
Extension of tourist visa for few days
Hi all,
My 6 months tourist visa expires on June 8th. I would like to attend a buddhist retreat that ends on June 10th and could take the flight back to Europe on June 11th. Does anyone know whether there is any possibility at all to extend the visa for 2-3 days after the expiry date or are we subject to the 2 month abroad rule, immediately after expiry?
Thanks for the advice, I am currently in Nepal and not so easy to find out from here.
Marina

For emergencies only you are allowed a tourist visa extension of 15 or even 30 days. It takes application to a state headquarters FRRO. We have had varying reports, easy for the asking, hell & not worth it, and outright insulting refusal. See if any of the following apply:
Serious illness with medical certificate
Flight booking problems with some sort of documentation
One other which I forget at the end of a truly tough, brutal week.
You can try your luck with your purpose. But, I think the odds would favor a Hindu event more. Let us know how it goes..

Yep. Religion irrelevant. The question need not even be asked, as it is directly answered by the small print on the visa itself. From memory, so maybe not word perfect:
Tourist visas cannot be renewed or extended

We do have rare reports of the extension being given on the basis of personal charm. Hence my comment tongue in cheek
..
.. Do you seriously think I would apply for an extension on the basis of attending a retreat????
How silly, and then saying that I would get more chances if the retreat was a hindu one. If that were the case I would worry about the Immigration office authority to grant visas based on religion... Seriously edwardseco I fail to see the usefulness of your posts.
And, after inquiry at the embassy, they do grant extensions of the visa, provided one produces the flight ticket and the corresponding leaving date. No need to specify the purpose at all, unless there is an emergency, obviously.
One would think replies here would be intended for helping rather than for mockery.

As surgical procedures are very inexpensive in India, can I suggest a "sense of humour" transplant?
On a more serious note, the advice given, presumably by someone at the Indian Embassy in Nepal, is in direct contradiction of the established rules. So is this a change of heart (possibly linked to the very recently reported relaxation of over-stay penalties) or has the O/P simply encountered one of the many members of Indian officialdom who talk out of their backsides?

Governments routinely give visas to pilgrims intending to visit places of significance to a particular religion. One can apply to some European countries Missions, to visit places of holy significance; In India sikh, hindu, buddhist and also muslim pilgrims are routinely given visa based on a set schedule of pilgrimage. Visit to Char Dham, Harminder Sahib, Ajmer Sharif, Dargah-e-Peer Chisti baba et. al are common reasons to grant visa. If the pilgrim is given an Entry (X) visa, then that visa would be extendable in India.
