Extension for a Visa type X
Hi,
I am a French trainee in Gurgaon and I have a visa type X valid till December 26th. I want to stay longer in India, and in order to do so I need to extend my visa. I am working in a company as a trainee since July and my company wants me to get a work permit if I want to stay longer in the company. Now, does anyone know if it is possible to get a work permit in India? I only have a visa type X... Secondly, I would like to extend my current visa to go for a second internship if possible. Does anyone know the process, the papers needed, where to go, how long it takes, how much it costs... anything about it? I heard that you have to go to the ministry of home affairs, or that you can extend it from Nepal... Anyone knows more??? My visa expires December 26th, so I am a bit in a hurry!!! In the worst case scenario, I was thinking of getting a tourist visa, but then, I don't know much about the process either... Please, help me!!!! Thanks!!! |

Thank you for your quick reply!
The thing is that I have a special endorsement on my visa, it is written "Trainee", so I think it would be okay to work as a trainee, that is what I was told at the Indian embassy in Paris. So is my visa type X a tourist visa??? I have looked at that website, I know the "supposed" steps to follow, but they didn't put any details regarding the papers needed... Nobody really knows... I went to the FFRO, I asked my company, asked some other foreigners that I know, I have surfed the net for information... but nothing is certain. I plan to go and check at the ministry of home affairs, but I am trying to gather as much information as possible. What I am looking for is information from people who were in similar situations and managed to extend their visa... Francois |

are they actually paying you to be here? I didnt think you could work on an X visa. If they want you to get an employment visa you will need to go and get one from the indian embassy in your home country. There is no such thing as a 'work permit', you need an employment visa and then you register with the frro for a residency permit if you are staying in India for more than 180 days.
The X visa is an 'entry' visa, the tourist visa is different. Also note that, for tourist visas at least, you cannot extend your visa in India, you need to get a new one. Im not so sure about X visas. |

Thank you for your answer.
I am paid, it's an internship through Aiesec. But it's not a job, it's an internship, so I'm not really considered to be working (according to the Indian embassy in Paris that gave me that visa after having a look at the internship papers coming from my company), but I am a trainee. |
