entry visa for legitimate purpose only

so does anyone have an entry visa? what kind of purpose do they allow?

also i dont think it is too clear whether the rules say they are only fo persons of indian origin, or are the six month and one year visas ok for anyone and only the five year entry visa is restricted to persons of indian origin?

also, once you are in and registered to stay, can you stay past the expiry date of your visa because now you are a resident? is a resident permit the same as 'registered'? (i gather once you register you are given a sort of passport looking booklet with your photo)

I was under the impression that 5 year visas were only granted to PIO. I got a 5 year x visa earlier this year and had to show proof that I was a PIO by bringing my dads passport in so they could make sure he was born in India (or maybe they wanted to make sure that we were not frequent visitors to Pakistan as I had a Pakistan visa in my passport ).
