Entry Visa for a new born foreigner in India

Folks,

I have applied for the Entry Visa for my new born in India (after getting the foreign passport ofcourse) for a period of one year. Havent heard of the grant of the Visa yet. (they have provided an Acknowledgement of the application though) Upon recently enquiring with them the local FRO has mentioned it would take upto 6 months to 1 year to get the papers cleared from Delhi. (it is interesting to note that the Entry Visa applied is for a term of one year).

After the grant of this Visa I need to apply for his OCI but my worry is that OCI application needs at least 6 months of Visa. Its already 4 months into the Entry Visa application but no progress yet. Unfortunately the OCI application cant get through on the basis of the Entry Visa Application Acknowledgement.

Any similar cases ? Any help would be much appreciated.

You finally want to apply for OCI so i assume your new born has at least one Indian parent.
The case for our daughter was a bit different (and still running)but we learned that getting a entry/X- visa is much easier to obtain in the country that provides the new born 's passport.
Converting of or applying for visa whitin India takes a lot of time.

I would do the following:

-After receiving your new borns passport get a exit-permit from the local FRO. (appr.5 days, depends on wich place, big cityies is faster)
-Travel to the country that provided the passport
-Get the birth certificate and your marriage document, go to the Indian Ambassy over there and get a X-visa probably the same or the next day.
-Back in India convert the X-visa to OCI

It's more expensive but will save a lot of time.

There may be some lapses from the concerned department, talk to the concerned official over phone, and get your queries cleared. I think this is the best way.

Thanks for the response Radhika. I spoke to the local FRO rep but they would not budge at all. He maintained the position that Delhi has to send in the papers to them only after which they can stamp the passport with the Entry Visa.

Not sure if there was any escalation point. But I reckon escalation will only worsen my position. Feeling helpless.

I agree 100% with Joseph10. It is more expensive to leave to get a visa but it will save you a ton of time and heartache. I am afraid that radhikajain is under the mistaken impression that the officials at the FRO are reasonable people who are willing/able to help if you explain your situation. My husband and I found that out the hard way the first time we tried to renew our visas so we left India and got new visas and are getting ready to repeat that process yet again. I sympathize with your plight and understand how frustrating and utterly helpless you feel but I think that your pleas will fall on deaf ears at the FRO. I also think that I recall someone else posting about getting a new baby a visa on this site so you might want to do a search and see if you can pull up that thread. All the best.

You could also go to Delhi personally, this might save a little time but anyway the procedure will be long.
Also i wonder why you applied for just a one year x-visa ?
The validity of the visa normally starts when the visa is procured by the government, so the Acknowledgement of the application does not mean the visa has started but is a proof of the application.
Everything goes truh Delhi, there are no shortcuts so don't expect them from the FRO
(The procedure from x-visa to PIO or OCI normally takes approx. 3 to 4 months, your FRO said 6 to 12 so maybe he was expecting something of you.)

Kooldude, don't worry, but don't expect this to be fast or easy.
Have patience or make a trip...
