And I believe you can renew Business/Tourist Visas in Sri Lanka as well, saves having to travel back to UK.
And you get a few days in Sri Lanka?

I don't know about business visas; employment visas are said to be obtainable only in your home country (they would seem to be renewable/extendable in-country though, so there's no point in going abroad for it. This is assuming you extend your employment with the same employer; switching employers would require obtaining a new employment visa, i.e., at home.)

Tourist visas aren't renewable; to obtain a new tourist visa abroad just after having spent a previous one (the so-called visa run) is said to be not such a straightforward nor reliable process anymore. It's been discussed many a time before; see for instance a recent comment of mine on it here: Visa Extension . Check also this standing thread on the matter: My stay in Kathmandu for Visa 25.12.06 - 3.12.06 .

My mistake, checked with friends in Goa and they have a one year business visa, but have to leave India every 180 days, so they "pop over" to Sri Lanka.
They have to come back to UK to renew the Business Visa each year.

No bashful faces needed, it's just a combined effort to keep our i's dotted on such crucial issues & hence be able to offer the better advice, isn't it.

So thanks & Thanks for checking with your friends; it does clarify the situation.

A further update to my previous thread:

And my friends have had real issues with Indian Embassy in Birmingham, Edinburgh and London, to renew in early 2008 they had to go to Birmingham who said No you have to go to Edinburgh where the original Visa was issued!
Another flight to Edinburgh and early next morning at the Embassy they were told No you have to go to London.
Another flight to London and they saw the gentleman who they had an appointment with, who amazingly said No, you can have a six months Tourist Visa and no working, take it or leave it
So they had to accept the decision and come back to Goa but not able to work but all the time paying Indian Taxes
After six months they returned to London and have now been given a two year Business Visa with No 180 day restrictions, confused, you bet you are, we are, they are and the Embassy are?
But at least it is all sorted for the good now

employment Vs Business visa

I have read this thread all the way through- wow what a mine field!

I am looking into setting up a new business in India offering recruitment research services to clients in the UK and all over the world.
I am a British national and have an existing recruitment business (established for 10 years) in the UK.

The business that I am planning to set up would employ around 25 people in it's 1st year -all Indians except my business partner who is also a UK national and has 12 years experience in recruitment.

Do we apply for employment or business visas?, we will be earning foreign currency, but drawing a salary from the Indian company, which we shall own in total. I am not keen on entering into a Joint Venture with someone that I don't know.

Officially, no, although nobody will be following you around to check that you are only doing touristy things and not attending any business meetings during your visit.

Whatever visa you have, forming a company as a foreigner is just not that easy. There is information on here on previous threads, but you will need to do a LOT more research about this than a travel forum can provide.

Just dwell on the words tourist, business, CEO for a while and see if you can make them compatible.

I can't.

Talking of "can't" sorry, but I can't resist any longer, I have to confess I giggled at the idea of a "privet company" - would this be set up with a hedge fund?

Hi

Hi
Can you tell me if your company in the UK is registered? I've been offered some consulting work but my company in the UK is not a registered company and I'm not sure if this will be a problem when applying for my business visa?

I am a self-employed consultant, from the U.K. I have just been awarded a contract by an Indian development company to oversee the construction of a golf course project and in due course, setup the maintenance of and train an Indian workforce to run it.

I invoice them monthly and the money is transfered to my business account in the U.K. after a deduction of Indian tax. I will be coming and going to India every three months.

Any advice would be welcome.

Can we please stop taking the p*ss out of this Malaysian guy's English?

How is your Malaysian spelling?

If you visit his country in the future, you will be only too glad if they speak to you in English, no matter how bad it may be.

If this post was from an Indian member, no-one would dare make fun of it, or the vitriolic reaction afterwards would be overwhelming.

I thought this forum was for worldwide members, and quite frankly I am astounded as to how well they post in an unfamiliar language....

Believe it or not, absolutely no offence or disrespect was intended, I certainly wasn't taking the piss and I am sure that I speak for Nick when I say he was not either. Our amusement was purely at the coincidence that a spelling error made another word in English.

Me too, and if you check my post history from earlier today you will find me praising people's ability in this regard.

johnny five - Haylo was not taking the p**** at all, she was making quite a witty joke using two words 'privet' (which is normally one of the plants used for making a hedge) and 'hedge' with another meaning, to do with finance matters - and the spirit of the post was with good intentions as she clarifies for us after yours.
Can we please now keep to the topic of the thread and not get sidetracked.
