Do you have to actually go out of India and get an 'external' visa from, say, the Indian embassy in Sri Lanka? In other words do you have to cross the border to a neighbouring country to get your next visa and then re-enter the country?

Or can you get another visa internally?

Hope I've made myself clear!!

If you are after a new Indian visitors visa (or most/all others for that matter) you have to leave India,

Tourist visas are not renewable.

Tourist visas are not extendable.

Tourist visas must be applied for in a country outside of India.

Business visa's though are extendable internally but can take up to 3 months to be finalised!!!!
